Do you mean who had the best career at welter or who was the best fighter to pass through the division.

Some names that spring to mind are Tito, Oscar, Shane, Vernon Forrest, Maurice Blocker, Marlon Starling, Simon Brown, Breland, Claws Espana, Ike Quartey, Whitaker, Cotto and Paul Williams.....

Best of this bunch on a one off fight: I would lean with Starling. Though, many fights could go either way. Oscar and Shane were damn good, but Vernon was Shane's kryptonite.

Sugar Shane ,..... he got everything you look for in an all time great .
His style is a notch above the rest in my opinion . his speed , footwork , power and technique is world class , and combine that with a humble attitude .

The only thing that draws him back is his nice guy personality . If he had a big trashy mouth like the others , he would have promoted himself to greater heights.

You're surely wrong seeing as it was 1997, his last fight at the Welterweight limit was 1982 aswell.

Prunty is the best obviously, Maher is chinny and can't punch......he'll be exposed by 'The Pimpernel'.
