in the process of buying a new .243 rifle. had a look at a remington model seven in camo and i must say it was a very nice gun.i am just wondering has anybody on here had one before and what are they like?plus would there be much in the price between one of them and a tikka t3?not sure which 1 to get yet!

I would go for the tikka over the remington any day, remington rifles are too heavily influenced by the will of the bean counters of late and have suffered as a result ..thats my 2 cents worth:)

what exatly does:confused that mean

Cost cuts were made on remington rifles by accountants who were trying to bring down the cost per unit in the production line, as a result the build quality has suffered on remingtons and they arent the rifle they used to be..lately Ive seen a remmy user drop his bolt onto a wooden table top which resulted in the bolt handle breaking off, another was failing to extract empties due to a broken extractor and required having a sako extractor fitted to remedy the problem and another was blowing the cases out of round due to a poor spec chamber which meant the lad who lived in northern Ireland couldnt reload and rechamber the cases without full length sizing every time..thats why I would reccomend the tikka over the remmy at present-better build quality for the same money..but thats only my thoughts im sure other folks will differ:)

It means corners are getting awfully round in them there parts. :p

They're coming out of the factory with less refinement and finishing work done in order to produce bigger numbers and to keep retail costs down. The effect of this however is not only to reduce quality across the board, but to severely reduce consistency of production as well, to the extent that you can't know what to expect from one when you buy it. It might be a half MOA nail-driver, but it might be a sloppily assembled pig, whose barrel only mostly points in the same direction as the stock. They're also a victim of American litigious tendencies, reflected in their extremely heavy factory triggers, relative to other manufacturers, an effort to make the company proof against lawsuits in the event of an accidental discharge (Whereas we're more keen on the concept of, y'know, personal responsibility).

sound for all the advice lads!the model seven seemed like a cracking rifle tho!will probably take the advice and go for the tikka t3 and to be honest i'm kinda happy cause thats the rifle i really want!

So how much more would i be expected to pay for a tikka t3?just a rough estimation because my dealer takes his time getting prices for me!

My Tikka T3 Lite, .243, Stainless - synthetic cost me €1050. Great little rifle.

€950 for a tikka threaded, last time i checked for some one .

there only have one flaw .thats the action ,but i dont mind it.

i came close to selling mine for a 75 last year but pulled out as the tikka shot better.

There good value to be had with second hand gear. If you can get the full details on a gun then second hand is a good way to go.

I got my Sako 75 in .308 second hand, my 4 bushnell elite scopes, scope mounts and saved loads of dosh. :D

my gun dealer doesnt have much selection of second hand .243's at this stage of the season. plus i want this gun to be exactly what i want since i dont plan on changin for years!

i could shop around for the perfect second hand gun but i will be trading in a .223 and not much dealers are willing to take trade ins lately!

Patsat, shop around, it sometimes helps just asking the dealer if he'd
import a second hand rifle for you. If all else fails, just get a rifle imported.
Most of my rifles where imported.

Howa, Tikka and Remington 700 are all good rifles.
Remmy might be the winner with aftermarket bits. Reliability the Howa
might be the winner. (No plastic bits )

Not to mention CZ 550 with the Kevlar stock at around €1000 it's a sound buy.

so is the model seven just a smaller/cheaper version of the model 700?
