Can anyone tell me the price of a dental consultation - with an orthodontist/for"cosmetic dentistry"? Even a ball park figure. Looking around Dulbin but would travel.

Does anyone know of any instances where this type of initial consultation is free.

    Thanks:D

For what its worth. I got a load of dental stuff done last summer and got it for half price up the north. A friend is a dental nurse so was able to compare the price. If your shopping around and are able to get up there its well worth it :D

Get it done by the best person not the cheapest person. The two are rarely the same.

    For braces look at www.orthodontics.ie
For cosment dentistry look for a specialist called a prosthodontist.
General dentists also do many "cosmentic" proceedures.
Who you go to depends on the quality of result you require.

I paid 180 euro for a cosmetic consult with a prostodontist in Dublin. In the end I didn't pursue treatment as I wasn't convinced he had listened to my concerns and requirements. (I didn't mind the fee which included xrays and study models of my teeth)
My own fee for similar consult is 40 euro. (I'm not a prostodontist). I lose money in that visit with such a low fee but I view it as an important 'get to know each other' occasion before proceeding with any treatment decisions.
Some dentists may very well take a bigger loss and provide an initial consult free of charge.

We charge €40 for a normal consultation and €100 with our implant surgeon for an implant assessment which is then deducted from the price of the implant if you go ahead with treatment. Incidently, at the nearest clinic over the border it is £45 (€54) for a check up and a whopping £350 (€425) for an implant assessment. Now maths was never my strong suit in school but unless I'm mistaken, we are less expensive. This came as quite a shock to me as you can imagine, surely it can't be.

No scan listed in their price list nor that they have one at the clinic, I would assume OPT is included, Fitz do you know of any clinic in the South charging that?

I had an assessment for implant options done last June and cost was E120 for a south Dublin location. This included full xray. I appreciated sitting at a table discussing the situation with computer backup rather than stretched out in a dental chair with numb mouth etc. On leaving I was given a print out of recommended treatment and costs. Given fees for other medics and cost of xray ( I think I paid E 100 for similar xray some 10 years ago) I thought this reasonable.

    Thanks guys,
All of this is really helpful - it seems like the prices really do range widely. I'm still a bit unsure as to whats included in each price quoted consultation.

I know that personal advertising is prohibited on Boards but feel free to pm me with your quotes for a consult, qualification and what's involved in a consult (for cosmetic dentistry if that's the right word) - or if youve had a really good exiperience and want to pass on the recommendation

thanks again for the information. :)

Personal advertising is totally banned and more to the point do you think anyone worth their salt would pimp themselves on a discussion forum. Ask your general dentist for a referral to a prosthodontist. If you don't have a general dentist get one first. But beware a specialist will be more expensive than a general dentist.
