I have to replace some drives soonish. Does anyone have any recomendations? It's for use with a HD3 ProTools system on a non intel G5,
    replacing Lacie FireWire 800's.

    Hey Tweeky,

I had a new seagate go kaput on me before (luckily I had it backed up) other than that all my other drives have been fine.

Have a look at this one Samsung 1TB F1R

Better than average read times and excellent write time, should be perfect for audio applications. Ain't cheap though

    Hi Tweeky,
I been using G-tech drives for the last 4-5 years now with PPC G5 , no problems . Looks good too with Apple macs . Bought them of Big Bear sound (Dublin). Also good model selection to suit budget. Very quiet operation barely a whisper ideal for control rooms.
    There ye have it !

We've had some problems with Lacie and G-Raids.

The first generation G Raids had a common power supply fault (I think it was)

However none of the later ones have had any trouble I've seen.

Do you need external ? An internal cost peanuts these days.

Why are you changing ? Pre-emting the inevitable ?

I use a G drive FW 800 and it has been no problem so far. I use an internal SATA drive for audio, much faster and quicker than FW. I have seen G drives in loads of Video edit suites so the must be fairly robust.

I've bought a few things from these guys, they do a lot of audio stuff along with their own version of Ram for Mac. Great value to be had.

Thanks for the feedback guys, always think external due to force of habit.
