does anyone on here spread bet on sport?

I use fixed odds and exchanges a good bit but was thinking of opening an account with a spread betting firm particularly for rugby betting.

Anyone have any experience in this area of know of any firms that are worth dealing with?

I used to spread bet with Sporting Index and IG Index and yep Rugby lends itself well to spread (maybe only cricket is better)
It is a seriously entertaining way to bet but too few companies offer it and the above two closed me down a few years ago.
I have heard off many that they take a much tougher stance on winning clients in last few years.

I wouldn't pay the slightest bit of attention to the fact that either of the above two firms are regulated by the FSA, as both do what they please with clients (changing prices after you've requested them, holding you for ages, waiting for action to develop in a mtch in running then accepting or rejecting your bet depending on what transpires while you are holding).

give either of the above two a call but you will be closed very quickly unless you prove you are an ATM to them.
Pity but that's online betting for you!

Thanks for the reply. What about Spreadex or the Irish company Sportsspread? I just opened an account with the latter; they don't ask for a copy of your DNA profile like Sporting and Extrabet (IG) do! Gonna have a dabble with these guys and see what they're like. I kinda prefer the idea of dealing with an Irish company.

    Appreciate the reply.

Wait till you try and withdraw your money. Not only will they attempt to anal probe you but they make you wait for up to six weeks to get it. You can deposit in under 30 seconds needless to say.

Congrats to Bertie Buncle on having his two accounts closed, though it has become easier the past 18 months.

Tried Spreadex a few years ago and found it almost impossible to open an account with them.
I actually had an account with Sports Spread years ago but found their service wasn't very good as they seemed far more interested in the financial spread betting and the sport stuff deteriorated.
Didnt have any probs on withdrawls if i remember but if that 6 weeks rule is true I wont be revsiiting any time soon.

I spoke to Eoin Ryan in SportsSpread. He has recently joined as M.D from Betfair. Regarding withdrawals: there is a 28 day rule on first withdrawal which is an anti fraud measure. After that you can deposit and withdraw as you like. They currently don't take laser cards online but he said that their entire payments system is being upgraded over the next few weeks and at that stage they will take the full selection of payment methods. They are working on upgrading their trading platform too. The point about the sports service having deteriorated in recent years as the financial spread betting took off is fair and that is why he has joined; to improve this. Incidentally, they are now longer owned by World Spreads. He says they may not ever cover the huge number of markets that some of the UK firms do but for all major sports their attitude is to widen the service and the quality of their offering and to attract Irish business on domestic sports as well as UK punters too (which is where spread betting is most popular). Anyone who is interested in a fair bet will be treated very well, he assures me.

I re-opened my Sports Spread account in March and have been fairly happy.
Definitely a different ethos, friendly and the 2 occassions I have made withdrawals, no problem.

Absolutely finished with IG, horrible outfit, the worst type of blue blood Brits who almost revel in treating you badly because you are Irish, so glad I have an outlet as I do love a spread bet.

They are spread free on most sports this weeknd which is good because there has been no price compettion in spread betting on sport for years.
Can only be good but I'm sure I will do my conkers.

American Football is also a great sport for spread betting. The new season starts in September.

They've been accepting LASER deposits for the last three weeks. I joined up about then and find them pretty fair. They have a decent range of spread free markets which can only help us punters. I tried to make a withdrawal last week but was told I had to wait 28 days from my first deposit and you can only do so by cheque. I had to upload copies of i.d and proof of address before being able to withdraw also, so don't sign up unless your willing/able to provide these.

They have an excellent sign-up offer (100 euro) and a refer and earn scheme as well. I referred my friend and got 100 euro cash into my account as soon as they qualified for their bonus, happy days!
If anyone's interested in joining up, PM me and I can refer you. :D

    Sports Spread

I closed my account with them because all they used to do was quote around the UK firms prices.
It must have been getting embarrassing for them they were doing it so often.
They obviously thought nobody would think to check their spreads and/or open an account with a UK firm!

You closed your account because their prices mirrored those of the UK firms????
    Why should you care?

I couldn't care less where a price comes from, if it's a good bet I will bet.

I will reserve judgement on them for a while but they will need to be compltely bovine to be worse than IG.
Blueblood Toryboys who wouldn't lay tuppence and revel in annoying you if you are Irish.
Their account opening and margining for Irish clients is miles more onerous than their preferred clients on the "mainland"

    Spreadex are ok
Sporting Index are market leaders but got their arses handed to them apparently thinking tehy could make money out of GAA and have made no effort subsequently in Ireland.

Remember that Betfair off some spread betting markets such as Total Goals and Total Corners index.

A massively profitable spread betting market for me is the "Player Performance" offered on live games on Sporting Index.

I got turfed out by Sporting 2 years ago after a few GAA wins.
Don't think they even bother quoting GAA now.

Sporting were always market leaders and up till a few years ago were good layers but once they got taken over by a private equity group the bean counters took over and turfed out anyone who even smelt like a non mug.

Well done on PP wins but enjoy it while you can because they will cut you back or close you very soon if the trend doesn't "rectify itself"

While Sporting make commercial decisions like this that sack me off, they are at least open about it.
IG however make my blood boil and the sooner they close and concentrate solely on their massively profitable financial spread betting the better for all.
They are reviled by spread bettors everywhere for their approach to laying.

Jury still out on SS but I have sold Clare over Wexford at 1.5 for very large this weeknd so we will see whose still chirpy come Monday!!

The result of the Irish general election was on Wed 2nd March.
You allege less than a week later in the above post that a cheque in respect of a bet on this took two weeks to arrive.
How can a cheque that arrived on or before Wed 9th of March be deemed to have taken 2 weeks when the earliest it could have been claimed was March 2nd?

Everyone likes a good old rant now and again but it's always better not to allege something where the facts can so easily rip your rant to shreds.
