Shipping costs rip-off

Just sent a watch to USA. Value was e1800. An Post will only insure up to e350. UPS and DHL won't insure watches above e300. So only option for insured shipping was FedEx. Cost was e130 to send it
What's the deal with An Post? The lack of an insured option, even within Ireland, is weird. Do they really have so little confidence in their own service that they won't insure valuables? And if that's not the case, surely the insurance would be a nice little cash cow for them?

Agreed and if the watch does go "missing" good luck in getting an insurance payout anytime soon.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Chopard arrived safely in Chicago yesterday. I usually just use An Post and hope for hte best, but that was the most expensive piece I've shipped and I didn't want to take the risk. Well, at least the service you pay for is a good one I suppose.
