    Hi all,
Looking for somewhere in Greece that my parents would go. They are around 50 years old, so would like somewhere where there is stuff to do during the day, and where the nightlife would have a few pubs, etc, but not full of scumbags getting pissed out of their heads.

If anyone here went to Greece in the last few years, please tell. Prefer referrals from couples.

What about Cyprus? The West side (i.e. not the Ayia Napa end) would tend to have a reputation for the older traveller. Paphos is a lovely town, full of restaurants and also things like ruins. We stayed in the Pioneer Beach Hotel which is adults only and right on the beach. Very nice hotel. Only drawback to Cyprus is that it's a bit expensive.

Crete is great if you stick to the Western end. Chania is absolutely charming as is Rethimno. From Heraklion onward, there is not much else than stags and hens. But the Western side of the island has a lot to offer.

+1 for Chania - it's very nice. Only downside is that there aren't any beaches nearby - they're a bit of a walk away from the town centre. The town itself is lovely though with great bars and restaurants. The southwest of Crete is well worth it - especially Loutro and Paleochora.

My parents liked Lindos in Rhodes a LOT - looking at the photos, I can see why.

I would recommend Oia or Kamari in Santorini (although Oia is expensive) and Naoussa in Paros. Parts of Corfu are lovely, especially Corfu town and the west coast. There's a hideous resort there also called something like Kavos - avoid like the plague. The tiny island off Corfu called Paxos is fab, but a bit tricky to get to.

If they are going for a package holiday, tell them to tread carefully - some are great and some are Club18-30 hell.

I would highly recommend Stalis in Crete. Haven't stayed there in a while so I can't recommend anywhere, stayed about half an hour away and went back up a few times. Or Kalamaki in Zakynthos. Would recommend The Marelen Hotel or Carretta Beach. Both only a few mins from the beach and all the restaurants. Zakynthos would be a lot quieter than Crete, but just as good.:P

Greece is fab, my favourite place for summer hols ;)

There are three direct flight options to Greece from Dublin 1) Corfu - we were in Kassiopi for a week which was nice. A really good site/forum for Corfu island is http://www.agni.gr/guides/index.asp .

    2) Zakynthos - Alykes is very nice, with lovely restaurants. More of a resort for couples. Vassilikos is also supposed to be fab, but a bit quiet, and they might want to hire a car - some of the best beaches and restaurants are to be found on this part of the island.

    3) Crete - have heard great report on Chania area.

Or they could fly Dubin to Athens (with aerlingus), and get an internal flight with aegeanair.com or olympic to one of the many islands. Skiathos is supposed to be beautiful, and you they could take a day trip to Skopelos.

Kefalonia, is supposed to be gorgeous too.

Santorini is a small beautiful island, with lots of stunning scenery, excellent food, but if they are into golden sandy beaches, they won't find them there. The two main beach resorts Kamari (pebbley) and Perissa/Perivolas (black volcanic sand) - but it didn't bother us, we loved the place.
