Amending Tax Credits Certificate

First of all may I just say fair play to Revenue for amending my Credits Certificate so quickly.

    Hoping you all may help.

I recently received my Tax Credits Certificate and discovered that I wasn't claiming credits I'm entitled to for year 2010. Primarily this would be for Trade Union Membership as well as Rent Relief.

Upon discovering it I fired up PAYE Anytime and made a request for said amendments and two days later I see they have amended my Tax Credits Certificate (in .pdf format) with the newly added credits.

Question is - as this is for year 2010 will these new credits automatically be added to my payslip or is there a step I'm missing? And even then..will these credits be backdated to January 1st (Backpayment, higher weekly credit to make up the first three weeks of the year etc?)

And finally - how long will it take for these credits to take effect?

    Thanking you!

It's my understanding that they'll be applied for the entire tax year, and you don't have to do anything else. The tax credits will be forwarded to your employer, so it can take a while for this to happen, and for them to update payroll. Once that happens, any tax due back to you should be automatically adjusted by your payroll dept, and you'll get a little bit extra in the pay one week.

If you paid union dues last year, and weren't claiming for them, you can add them online now, and you'll get a tax rebate.

Thank you for the reply! Now a second question -

I applied for Credits owed to me from 2009 - Again Rent Relief and Trade Union Subscriptions.

To my knowledge 2009 is like 2008 - in that the total of the above two tax credits would have a net effect of 470 euros.

I'm eligible for the full 2070 euros (gross) relief on 2009 - and although I've gotten a lodgement from the revenue today it's only for 251.62. Shouldn't it be in the region of 470 like it has been in 2008? No circumstances have changed.

Anyone have any idea what the story is?

It's a credit against PAYE paid.

Not enough PAYE paid the refund is reduced.
