Good work fella, i had a bookmark for a similar essential mix website before but the website is now dead so this will the job, that FSOL mix from 94 is superb, in fact most of the 1990's mixes are damn good and it's diicult to pick out one that is the best!

    Very nice find!

I have most from 93 to 96 but would like to grab more from after that.

I was listening to the 93 David Holmes mix in the gym a while back, a right bangin mix altogether, excellent.

The Grooverider essential mix from 1997 is one of the most inspirational mixes there is... Proper foundation shizzle, he was at the absolute height of his powers. Fast forward 13 years and it's tempting to see him as a caricature of himself, trainwrecking his way through toy-town asbo-step sewage, but there was a time when he led and didn't follow...

Always loved the nerve of Photek's mix, playing an hour of tunes and then just whacking on all 60 minutes of Goldie's "Mother" :D

How cool is this... listened to and recorded the Essential mixes in the 90's almost religiously, especially liked the Ibiza specials they did in those days, will take a look to see if any are on there and get nostalgic... cheers for the superb link!!

I use Safari, but I've heard it's an add-on that downloads any audio content on a page, even if it doesn't normally let you download it.

    hey,
    regarding essentialmixes.net
i am unable to become a new member, or download any music and there are comments in the chat box reporting the site is closing down.
any information regarding the above please?

this is a disaster, i was up until now able to download mixes etc...if the site closes is there any equivalent or alternative?

To be honest, I would have severe doubts about how a site like this could ever exist legally. I mean, they started charging in the end up. No way a big company like the B.B.C. were gonna stand by and let some website make money off nearly twenty years worth of music that they owned the rights to. I can see it being shut pretty soon.

Sorry about the late reply, install the addon called "Download Helper" for firefox, it'll allow you download anything that streams such as youtube videos, music etc. If you have any bother setting it up let me know.

hey, i emailed the site and got this reply:

    Hi,

    Thanks for the email.

The site isn’t closing down. We are currently undergoing some changes and are unable to accept members at present. Membership and the downloading of mixes will again be available in a few days. Sorry for any inconvenience.

    Thanks.

There's an extension called Dionysus for Chrome, but it didn't seem to work very well for me, although I'm on a Mac and maybe it wasn't fully compatible. There's probably another one too though.

Well I was talking to a lad who's well up in the club scene over there, and he reackons Radio1 are definately shutting it. But because so many people have paid subscriptions to it, they are legally obliged to let them use up thier downloads before they close, as they've paid for them. That's why the can't take any more registrations, but are still open. He could be wrong though. Time will tell I guess.

I'll try and download all the mixes if I can, could take a while though !!

EDIT: That will take forever :( If we could all take a year each then it should be quite possible !!
