    Hi Folks,
Can anyone tell me the name of the type of bike rack that you can lock your bike to in a public place, that doesn't munch/ bend/ warp/ wreck your wheels?

Trying to get one put in beside a local business and they're looking for the spec!

    Thanks!

The standard bike rack used in Dublin city centre, for example, is called the Sheffield Stand.

There's another version with an additional horizontal bar half way up- it's slightly more expensive, but also safer.

Edit: I was looking for possible Irish suppliers and I came across this- http://www.nationaltransport.ie/cycman/ChapterC3.pdf It's a chapter from the Draft Cycle Manual produced by the National Transport Authority, and it has lots of photos, including some of the wheel-grabber type with busted wheels in them. Might help convince your audience of the uselessness of these stands in public areas. ;)
