    Hey people,

I recently (well yesterday) got NTL/UPC 15mb bb.

It is downstairs, while my desktop is upstairs and doesn't have wireless.
So instead of buying a wireless adapter, could I use a modem/router that I have?

    My OS is - windows 7 64x

Ntl router - black cisco/linksys one.

    other router - cisco/linksys WAG160n

    Any help is appreciated

    Doylah

The Cisco EP2425 supports WDS so that may be an option. You'll need to set the Cisco IP as your gateway on the PC. The WAG160N expects to use it's ADSL modem as it's WAN interface, so it may not be too co-operative about this.

Thanks for your response, a few questions though.
    1. Is this the ip of the WAG160N or the EP2425? as both are cisco :)
    2. Would any settings need to be put forward to the ep2425 address (192.168.1.1)? as you mention WDS support,
    3. If this is all correct, it'd be as easy as
      -plug in to power supply,
      -using ethernet to connect desktop
-set up desktop gateway, as the ip of wag160n (one plugged in to desktop)

    Thanks for the reply,

I meant the IP of the Cisco 2425 modem (192.168.1.1 by default).

For WDS you need to enter the MAC addresses from each router into the fields on the other. I have a spare Linksys router at home that I'll experiment with later myself and see if it works.

    Cool thanks man..

    So the following.

-assign the gateway of the desktop to be the ip of upc router/
-put the mac address from the routers into each other.

I still assign a static ip for the desktop,
while ignore the dns, and let the router handle that.

(as in properties of the desktop connection)

This information is appreciated, hopefully it works.

You'll probably want a static IP for the Linksys as well on the same subnet as the Cisco, i.e. 192.168.1.x. Though again, I still need to qualify this with a warning that the WAG160N may not play nice.
