Strange monitor problem

    Hi,
I have a Packard Bell iTwin desktop computer. Up until a few days ago it has worked perfectly but I kept getting the blue screen of death saying there was a problem with the nv4_disp driver. So I Googled that and found many pages of advice on how to fix the problem.

I did that but the problem did not go. So I then changed my OS to linux and that worked like a charm until I turned it on the other day and the screen is all sectioned. E.G half the screen is half way down a quarter may be in one corner and its just a big mess.

I tried a full system restore with the master disk I had from 3 years ago...that did not work. I tried unplugging the graphics card....that did not work. I do not think it is a hardware problem because the screen works perfectly up until it gets to the desktop.

Does anyone have an idea on what I could do next?

P.s I cannot change monitors because the computer is just a screen with harddrive and motherboard within.

Its not a problem with the monitor, its either:
    1. A gfx card overheating issue
    2. Your gfx card is fecked
    3. A driver issue

    Solutions:
1a - clean the fan on the gfx card and also the dust off the case fans
1b - if you can get into windows, run ATITool and monitor the temps, if its a temp issue it will probably eventually crash

    2. Not much you can do about it

    3. Remove the gfx card drivers, create a system restore point, boot into safe mode, run regclean, remove the dlls for the video card, nv4_disp.dll in system32, reun regclean, reboot - you can read about this here - http://www.tweakguides.com/ in the Nvidia Forceware section

Another option is to clean install your OS but only do that if nothing else seems to work. Id also check that the BSOD ALWAYS says nv4_disp.dll ,dodgy memory, instability due to mobo/cpu or mem problems can also cause BSODs but the fault will not be the same each time.

Ignoring idiots who comment "far right" because they don't even know what it means
