Question about Jobseekers Benefit

I received a letter this morning stating that my Jobseekers Benefit was due to stop soon. It also stated that I may be entitled to now claim Jobseekers Allowance (Mean-tested).

What does all this mean? They also enclosed application forms for job seekers allowance.

When are my normal payments likely to stop and how will jobseekers allowance affect me differently?

I greatly appreciate any replies :)

Step 1,fill in forms and sent them back to the dept.As for you payments being affected you would need to post a lot more info about yourself eg living at home or not ,under 23 or not, dependants ect,you might want to look up the citzens advice web site you should get a good idea where you stand.

I have experience of JSB. The way it works is, you can work 2 to 3 days a week and claim JSB for the remainder working days, based on a 6 day working week. It you are let go from your job, you go on JSB, until this benefit runs out, usually after 11 months. After that, they write you and advise that your benefit is about to expire and then you sign on for credits.

If you are entitled to Job Seekers ALLOWANCE which is totally different, then it will depend on your personal circumstances. For example, if you have a spouse or a partner who is earning a good salary, then forget about it because that will be taking into account and you will not qualify. Basically, the JSA is the dole. If you don't qualify, you will continue signing on for credits which means, if you DO secure employment this will transfer into your benefits down the road. If you get a job for I think a period of 13 weeks, you can again qualify for JSB.....but by and large, if you DO get another job, you are better of to stick with it until you are put out to pasture again. Check the citizensinformation website under social welfare payments and it will give you more accurate information.
