    hoping someone can help me.
I'm playing guitar for a show at the minute with a good few 80's songs such as don't go breaking my heart and waiting for a star to fall but finding it hard to find a nice sound, that nice clean almost funky sound. I'm using a gibson robot and a peavey valveking 212. Hope someone can help
    cheers

Hi most of that was via, Soldano, Yamaha T100's and later the ADA Pre's and that funky almost clean sound is usually done via a strat or strat wannabe of some kind with a nice mid scoop on it....

Look up Dan Huff back in the Giant days or the guy from starship and find out what rig they we're using back then...

Your Gibson is going to have a crap load of mids that are built for one thing only.........

Even a parket fly would pull off that sound pretty easy as they are thin on the ground anyway
