    hello,

a friend of mine has asked for help. she's working on a contract where she's out sick and is not entitled to sick pay. she also has a daughter (single parent). does anybody know what she's entitled to? I understand she can use a cert from the doctor weekly to get payments from social welfare.

    Thanks!

she needs to get a social welfare cert from her doctor and bring it into her local social welfare office.she will then get a illness benefit claim processed and will need to get a cert from her doctor every week she is absent from work.

She may also have an entitlement to One Parent Family - you can receive full rate One Parent Family and half rate Illness Benefit together, so she should apply for that scheme also.

hi ,i need some advice and reading your answers to others you know what your talking about,to begin, i had a fulltime job and worked untill november 09 when my mother un fortunately suffered a stroke, ive since looked after her and my dad doing the cleaning ,shopping ,cooking and bringing them to and from hospital/doctors,ect,i also must say my dad is on invalidity pension, my mum did all for him ,and being the only girl everything is left for me to do, anyway i applied for carers benefit in november havent heard a thing since, our family gp said he would help and put me on the sick as he said i would need some kind of income but its not very much, is the waiting time normal for carers benefit to come through ,thanks

i have lived in uk for 38 years. have moved all my stuff back to ireland, but not yet there. i am on benefits in uk (Disability living allowance & incapacity benefit- neither transferable I believe) as i have parkinson's disease. will be renting out flat in london so will have approx £500 month. rest goes to sister as rent for shared house we own but she does not live there.

    virtually no savings.

    very worried
