Yep i'll be there , did it last year on a very cold day . There should be a good crowd from the club doing this . Wasn't really prepared for the weather last year as it was my first 103km . I still remember sittin in the car for 20 mins after it with the heater on full blast tryin to thaw out my hands .

Didn't put me off doin it this year --keep an eye out for us http://sportifwaterfordcc.blogspot.com/

what kinda numbers are we talking about entering this event based on last years attendance ??

I remember it was your first one last year Henboy. About 120 riders there if I recall correctly. Hadn't been on a bike leading up to it and what a shocker it was too, that strong cold wind on the road towards hook... I remember riding up from Waterford and rubbing my hands on the teapot they had in the hall to try get some circulation going. Then a long cold cycle back to Waterford into a headwind. No wonder no-one saw me for months after that.

Still, good to get together for a large bunch ride at this time of the year, so I reckon I will have to head down. Unless its terrible weather, then I will stick to the turbo. Turbo is a pet name for my xbox.

According to the barrowwheelers website, it looks like there are going to be some changes on the route due to bad road conditions. The altered route has not been updated as of yet though.

Cheers for the info. If I remember last year there was a patch of road that was bad. I can only imagine that after this winter it's real bad. It's such a shame because a lot of sportifs are going to be altered this year because the roads won't be repaired.

    Well lads,
Yup, some of the route is going to be changed to try and avoid some very bad patches of road and the new route will be up on the site soon. Still keeping the general direction the same, up to Killanne and then across the county down to the sea at Duncannon and back to Ross just changing some of the smaller roads out of necessity. Problem is new potholes keep appearing and council is only doing certain roads at the moment. The route should be still interesting and as it's not a race (definitely not!!) we should be able to keep an eye on the road and the scenery!! There will be coffee available before the event and HOT showers and refreshments afterwards.

The pace was pretty steady and like all these events people find their own pace. Everyone completed the route as far as I know and people came in to the finish at various times depending on their own fitness. Definitely not racepace or anything like it and the aim of these events is to get people out there to enjoy themselves and to get a sense of accomplishment out of completing the event be it in 3hrs or 5 hrs or whatever. Usually good fun too with a lot of riders from the local area and some from further afield.
Now let's hope the weather is kind to all of us after the awful winter in the sunny south east!!

Also looking forward to this, hopefully the morning wont be to frozen, it was fairly bad here in Waterford city up until about 11am this morning. We will have about 15 from our club Sportif Waterford CC heading down to this also.

From what I can remember from lasts years one, there was plenty of tea and coffee on offer before the event and afterwards plenty of sandwiches and more biscuits.

I'm feeling the pain Havoc, feeling it big time, in same position. And it's suppose to be not bad weather wise (aka it's not raining).

Did this today also... due to heavy frost course had to be re routed for a third time a fast out and back out the main road as last poster said very cold but fast pace soon got the engine room up to temp.

Thanks to the lads at Barrow Wheelers for today I know it was a bummer not being able to ride what looked to be a great route but as the lads said safety is paramount...... so fair play to all involved.

    Event No 1 2010 ---- Done & Dusted..

Now wheres that calendar ???? :D

totally agree with above post, the changed route did lead to probably a far quicker pace than the pace of either of the other two route, but hey we weren't long about warming up in those freezing temps as we set of. We did however have to encounter a very though head wind all the way back.

Well done to all the organisers and also to all the girls that made the tea, coffee, sandwiches, and gorgous cakes afterwards too, thanks a million. See ye next year again.

Anyone know when and where the next Sportif takes place?
