Medical card and registered doctor

Folks, I have a query regarding the medical card. I'm hoping to get a GP only MC and have got my local GP which I am a patient off to stamp the form etc. Is it correct that this is the only doctor that can be seen by myself or my family? As while we attend his clinic for general medical needs, I also bring my daughter to my old GP in Dublin to monitor her chronic asthma, as he his quite expert in the field and a former pediatrician. The necessary experience or skill is not present in my local GP's to keep a good eye on this condition, so I was forced to take this route in the best interests of my child.

Now I know I could have put this other doctor on the form, but as it is well over the 7 mile limit, I don't think it would work, and it would also rule out using my local GP if I needed to. So, I was just wondering if anybody can shed some light on this issue please.
