iphone 3GS Battery Despair!

    Hi Folks,

Just thought I would vent my frustrations with my iphone to see if folks have similar experiences. I got my 3gs in the weeks before Christamas and while I love it I am thinking I will have to give it up.

Reason is I am a very very heavy user (my bills are cirica 300 per month). My old dependable Nokia was a trojan phone and only had to be charged every 2 or 3 days. My iphone is absolute pants... I'm not getting even 12hrs...

I have all functions switched on i.e. wifi and 3g but not bluetooth. To switch these off would dimish the phone.

To cap it all I was in the UK earlier this week i.e. 5am start and the phone gave up by 6 that eveining, which was not good from a work point of view.

My thoughts are that Apple should concentrate a little less on thier islate/itablet and try and get to grips with this issue. As is I dont think the iphone is viable for business users.

Actually feel much better now having written this!
    Cheers

Did you read any review on the phone before you got it, as a matter of interest? One of the major complaints has always been battery life. My Nokia 5800 wasn't much better with the same usage as my 3G.

I did! But I thought is was mainly due to people playing with apps and not actually being on the phone! It is such a shame, I REALLY love the phone but it not able to perform its primary function for me sufficiently...

I know what you mean but if you are such a heavy user, do you not bring a charger to work with you?

I worked 12.5-15 hour days recently and the battery lasted me the entire time. Granted I didn't have wifi on but I was on the phone quite a bit, with email and internet use.

You can go back to a Nokia but you won't get the user experience of the iPhone. I had an N97 for a while but couldn't stick it and went back to the iPhone.

Elessar, do you have the 3gs?

I had the same issue but use the following solution

    http://cgi.ebay.ie/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200427141059&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

Fits in my wallet and is so useful...iphone is so worth it even if you do have to charge it everyday

    Yes I have a 3Gs

Do you really need Wifi? Could you not just use 3G? Or vise versa? Switching off either of these will improve battery life no end.

Edit: You could also consider a juice pack - http://www.mophie.com/juice-pack-air-p/1059_jpa-ip3g-blk.htm

Cheers Lpool, will take a look at that, also looking at a power monkey, on amazon, but it looks bigger and dearer.
Eleser, I need wifi when in the office/home as I decided to set up a SIP account now that my phone has the technology to run it!

Locha you need a Mophie Juice Pack I has been well documented that the modern touch screen smart phones are batteryaholics, particularly the iPhone, general rule of thumb seems to be the more it can do, the more you use it, the more you use it, the faster the battery goes.

The Mophie juice pack is handy in the sense that you have it fully charged and slip the phone into it as the battery is getting low and it supplements the battery or charges it if you are not using the phone.

Have you turned off Location Services too? I find that doing so reduces battery drain considerably.

Hi Victor, do you have one? just reading some of the reviews, one reviewer said that it badly impacted thier mobile reception...

Can i ask a stoopid question without going too OT - What exactly are location services?

Locha I don't have a Mophie nor have I any experience of them I'm afraid

Here is another option or 2,

According to Mac rumours THIS is the best charging option

Found this one too no idea how good it is though

GPS, WiFi triangulation, cell tower triangulation. It's the service that feeds apps your current location.

I'm not sure what you've tried, but, if u don't need 3G all the time, turn it off, this will improve your battery life

Also, dim your display right down...

both these things improves my battery life over anything else..

regarding the juicepack, and signal. I have one of the mymemory ones. Reception in my house is poor at the best of times. The mymemory sleeve kills it off completely

I have one, sitting in a drawer. It didn't affect reception, but the weight and size of it are really off putting.

turn off location services, 3g and push notifications. aslo turn off "ask to join other networks" under wifi so the iphone wont always scan for available wifi. itll automatically join the wifi zones you have previously joined. set autolock to 1min

You should install SBSettings, makes it much easier just to turn on bluetooth, 3g, wifi etc. when you need them, which of course will increase the batterylife significantly.
