IN IRELAND WE HAVE 142 JUDGES - THEIR SALARIES START AT 147 K for DISTRICT JUDGES & RISE TO 260 K for SUPREME JUSTICES . 31 OF THESE MEN & WOMEN - ALMOST 20% - SO FAR HAVE MADE NO VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTION TOWARDS A REDUCTION IN THEIR PAY - THEY ARE ALL PUBLIC SERVANTS & ARE ALL DIRECTLY APPOINTED BY THE GOVERNMENT OF THE DAY.

-- SO MUCH FOR THEIR SOCIAL CONSCIENCE .---

THOSE WHO HAVE TAKEN REDUCTIONS - HAVE REDUCED THEIR SALARIES BY 121 EUROS PER WEEK - ON AVERAGE 3% . A TRUE DEMONSTRATION OF UNBOUNDED GENEROSITY BY OUR BETTERS .

And who are you to judge them?

Apparently judges are well paid because of some theory that it makes them less suceptable to bribery.

Doesnt work very well for politicians though

i took the pic there :D

as for the judges ...well... most of them live in their own little bubble....so probably dont know they were asked to take a paycut Voluntary Contribution towards a reduction in their pay.

I love the sweet irony of the juxtaposition of the OP's nick and the basis of his arguement.

Is this a form of capital punishment? :)

Did anyone follow the links in the OP's sig.

Spent a couple of mins on that site and still no idea what its about apart from not liking judges for some reason (well founded or otherwise)

If I was earning 30 k ans year in a high paced stressful job then I wouldent mind taking a bribe or 2 to get by.

That is the main reason for Judges high pay.

And before you go on about "soft sentaces must mean bribes and corruption!!!!" Unfortunatly Judges have to follow precedent. Giving out ridiculous sentences just because "the scum deserves it" doesnt sit well with the "scums" solicitor, when just before him,a similar case had a totally different punishment. If this happened it would lead him to appeal, thus taking up more court time.

Blame the legislation if you are looking for a bone of contention.

i actually thought it was pretty impressive that nearly 79% (i think?) took a voluntary pay cut.

We don't really know their situation, they could have high expenses like a large mortgage or holiday home they have to pay off. It's their money so they're entitled to do what they like with it. I would probably voluntarily give up a percentage of my disposable income, but I wouldn't remortgage my home or sell my holiday home to do so.

i think the real issue is how many conspiracy theorist youtube bloggers took a voluntary paycut.
