I have just noticed this for anyone who has an itunes account.

Alexander Dumas' classic revenge novel, published in 1844 is available to download for just ninety five cent.

Note: Its 51 hours of audio, the actual book is 1245 pages.

Anything out of copyright is free here once they get around to recording it:

I'm about three quarters of the way through this and it's definitely worth many, many times what they're charging for it.

Sounds good, whats the diff between the itunes version and out of copyright version?

I'm in the process of downloading it from iTunes now, it takes a while so I will report back later on when it's complete...

The ex-copyright version is a bit different from the book that I have but it was translated by a number of different people depending on what publishing house did the job, and there will be subtle differences in interpretation. I have the one from the Penguin Classic range. The same essence is there however, one of the best novels ever to be written I believe.

The penguin one from 1996 - is this the one recorded on itunes? If so I'll probably go for that one.

It just finished downloading, took about 80 minutes in total on Eircom 3 meg. Listened to the first few minutes and it's slightly different from the Penguin 1996 print. And it's also different to the free link posted above. It's 1.37gb in total, or 7hrs 53.38 mins. A steal at not even a euro. The readers voice is quite good too, it won't grate on the ears!

it shouldnt take that long to download 1gb.
either itunes are limiting their download speeds or you are not getting your full 3 megs.
i have a good 2 meg connection and i can download 1gb in just over an hour

Just thought i'd post to say that I snapped this up at under a euro, never fully believing i'd actually listen to it, but I'm 10 hours in at this stage and hooked. Good job OP, a bargain of the highest order.

This may sound stupid, but what kind of a format does it come in? Can it be used on anything else other than an ipod?
