    hmmm, Sean gnockey eh ?

    He was blown away by the drum sound in AP studios , he was hired to record and produce an irish act there last year

    Slightly off topic but a drummer friend of mine whose been playing semi-pro for about 15 years showed me a video of Bernard Purdie last weekend. I'd never heard of him before but I've been unwittingly listening to him for years (James Brown etc):



    I meant to show him KJ Sawka and slightly back on topic maybe a single mic source does work if the kit is tuned nicely (check out the snare):

    Purdie played on some of the steely dan stuff(home at last) along with steve gadd and jeff porcaro, all of which have played on more hits than I can remember. He's also famous for the Purdie shuffle. He played on so many hits he had 2 signs to put up either side of the kit with "the hit maker" written on them. That's back when lads(musicians) played in time and in tune. The guy's a legend.
