    Hi,

We've decided to get married in Vegas in Sept :) but want to throw a party for friends and family when we get home. I've been trying to find a nice function room that will hold up to 200 people and serve finger food / canape type food. I think I might have to go for a hotel as I want to invite children along too,

I've been looking through these threads and got some good leads from here but just wondering if there are any nice places I might have missed??

Ideally I would like Dublin City Centre but could go North or South side too ???

    Thanks,
    Car.

200 people is an awful lot and there must be 100 venues in dublin that could hold that many. Narrow it down and you may get more suggestions. Are you talking budget, swanky, middle of the road? need entertainment ? bar extension? busses? what night of the week? Hotel make the food or you getting caterers (sp?)?

If you invite 200 youll only get 200 out to a party on a saturday night. Expect 10% "cant make it or no shows" to a wedding and at least 25% to a party. tis the norm,

Fallon and Byrne are located in the city centre and have a function room to accommodate those numbers (i'd guess). not sure what they attitude to kids is.

A lot of hotels in Dublin have a max of about 150. Off the top of my head some that have larger rooms:

    The Grand in Malahide
    Portmarnock Golf Links
    Clontarf Castle
    Crown Plaza Santry
    Davenport in City centre
    Conrad in city centre
    Thomas Prior Hall, Bewleys Ballsbridge
    Radisson St Helens Stillorgan
    The Shelbourne
    Castleknock hotel & country club
    Westin, city centre
    Alexander in city centre
    Marine hotel in Sutton
    RDS
    Fitzpatrick castle Killiney
Croke Park has function rooms you can rent

Fallon and byrne and the harbourmaster would be my two suggestions. not sure if they would hold such numbers though but are very nice venues. Kettles in swords is nice too and would definitely fit 200 people. I djed at a wedding party there that served finger food rather than a sit down meal.

Great, thanks for all those suggestions, I'll do some ringing around so!

We are going budget all the way - just finger food and evening event, and hotel will have to cater it.

We have a baby too so wanted a hotel so I could get a room and have babysitter upstairs since everyone I know will be invited to the party!!! Also have a sister coming home from Italy with 2 kids and no babysitter either!!

I think hotels might be more lenient on allowing children but I'll call around the pubs listed too. I think if food is served kids can stay longer??

I don't know how set you are on Dublin City Centre but The Ashbourne House Hotel can provide everything you listed. I know its completly out of the area you requested but it's not far from Dublin Airport.
I had my wedding there and my sister and friends have booked it since then.
My sister's wedding was along the lines of what you mentioned and she got a bargain and they provided fantastic service to us on our wedding day.

There is a new venue in the Arlington Hotel just across from Dublin Castle which I reckon would be ideal!! my friends had a party there and it was great, food was good, staff were friendly and its in the middle of the city centre. We also had kids there and it was fine! i think the girls name is emma...good luck!!:)
