eBikes in Ireland

What's the law with regard to eBikes in Ireland?

Thinking of getting one of those Sanyo bikes that won an award at the consumer electronics show.

I reckon when these Lithium Ion Air batteries come on the market, these bad boys will do 400 miles on one charge!

In many major cities in China, eBikes make up 10 to 20 percent of all two-wheeled vehicles on the streets!!!

Sorry I was busy arguing about Mammy's boys on another thread.

Ok whadda we have here? Ebikes eh?

IBTL takes on a whole new meaning with regard eBikes and the lack of regulation in this area! There's a shop on Camden Street sells eBikes and the bloke in there told me you're free to ride one to your heart's content even though they top out at quite high speeds! Then again, those racer gimps going around on their carbon bikes can easily do 50 kph on the flat (and without a helmet too!)

Ignorant attitudes such as this are actually a huge problem for the marketing of eBikes in western countries. In the USA, such ignorance is even encouraged and sponsored by the auto industry.

    No wait I got one!

I used to have an eBike but I had to give it away - anytime I went out cycling on it we'd always end up at clubs chewing our faces off and hugging strange bikes.

    That's ****. Sorry.

You were (supposedly) in the shop which you fail to name (& doesn't appear to have a site with prices according to Mr Google who I consulted before desperately relying on your intellect and memory.)

E-Bikes are like fat birds - fun to ride, but you really don't want anyone to know you were riding one.
