    But cannot find a manual.

Here's the basics; It belongs to a friend.
Friend knows that I have never taken a laptop apart before (apart from that one time with one that didn't work anyway).
    It doesn't work.
There is power going to it, but nothing is lighting up.
It hasn't been used in about a year.
He has since replaced it and doesn't care if I damage it completely or not.

    I'd just like the practice.

Anyway, I've searched before for instructions on how to take a laptop apart and always found lots of useful results. Google is giving me nothing this time though. Well, apart from people looking for money. I'm not paying for something which I know is available free.

    Any help would be appreciated.

It could be the ac jack that's gone on it. Although that's just an educated guess.

Tbh, if it were me i think i'd just get the screw driver out and see what comes off when you take out all the screws. Seeing that it's not yours...that may not be the best way of going about it!
I know i wasn't much help, but still...

Yeah, as said, remove all the screws from bottom of laptop and maybe the rear. You should then be able to remove panel above keyboard. Remove screws for keyboard. Search for any screws under keyboard. Remove screws holding LCD hinges. remove LCD and any cables connecting LCD, wireless. Disconnect touchpad cable. Search for any other cables connected between plastics. Slowly pull apart. If it's not coming you missed a screw or two.

Thats really it if you don't have a manual.

Might be more screws hidden under hardive, slot where CD drive goes.

note where screws came from if you want to put them all back in the correct place.

    any problems let us know.
