Where Do I Stand Here

just before xmas the bookies beside where i work (Celtic Bookmakers) were running a draw.
the draw was that every time you had a losing docket you wrote your name on it and entered a draw.
the draw was made every sat evening ant the winner won a tin of biscuits and either a €50 bet or an number
if you won the number the one you got was a horse in the welsh national at chepstow just after the new year, and if the number you got won your prize was a €200 free bet
i won a tin of biscuits and got number 11

number 11 won the race and i won the €200 free bet, or so i thought.
i was off work that day and because i wasnt on the premises (the bookies) i was told that was not recieving the prize.

i argued that i was never told that i had to be on the premises (i wasnt told at any stage) but the person on duty told me it was in the rule book. again i argued that i wasnt told to read the rule book and wasnt aware of any rules, as far i knew i was in a draw and that was it.

there was a total of 2 people in the bookies at the time of the race.

myself and lots others debated the issue with the bookies until last friday when i was told that there would be no comprimise offered by celtic bookmakers

im very annoyed by this as at this stage nobody has won anything and i was given the run around because i was being fobbed off with 'we are having a meeting this day and that day'.

just wondering where i stand on this, thanks for reading

Just go back to them and say if they want to continue with that reasoning, you will take your business elsewhere.
If they don't do something, go to Boyles or PP's even if it doesn't suit you.
If they stand by their decision and you are a good client of theirs, they will relent, if you're not a good client they will tell you to **** off and go elsewhere.
At the end of the day, if they do nothing, LEAVE.
There's enough bookies looking for business these days, no reason to take any **ite off anybody.

    Hi admiralofthefleet.

Only 1 way to confront this, imo.

Make your way to the bookmakers in question when you have the opportunity to and attempt to claim your €200 free bet. Do you have confirmation that your number was 11?
If that fails, I would contact your the editor of your local newspaper and explain the situation, in detail, to him/her and ask them to cover your story in the next edition.

I don't find it extremely hard, I find it totally astonishing that you had to be there, in person, to witness the race - I've never heard something as foolish as that in a long time. Is this person who made this quote unaware that the rest of the world has a life to lead...

I wish you all the best, there isn't much further advice I can give unless I know the exact details ie: do you have confirmation that your number is 11..what's happened to the €200, did anyone receive it?

There is a guy in the the Irish star that has an article every Saturday who deals with betting problems between punters and bookmakers. Try and get in contact with him so you can give him your story.
This sounds ridiculous and very unfair, you won the prize and the prize is there to give to you and no one else won it, it's ridiculous and terrible customer relations.

This is at the discression of the bookies, but if I were you I'd contact the head office. For the sake of €200 they won't want bad publicity.

I had a similar suitation some time ago. I went to the manager told him I was going to the local paper who were very willing to run the story. I also told him I was going to stand outside their shop and tell everyone that was going inside the whole story. He tried to tell me there was nothing I could do about it but when I started to go around the shop telling people he was very quick to want rid and handed over my prize.
I suggest you dont let this go.
They cant stop you from standing outside their door and talking to people no matter what they say.
    Good luck

John Martin is the guys name and Punter's Platform in the middle of the paper is where you need to go.
You might have to wait a while before it is published though.

If it was in the rule book/terms and condirtions, then technically they are in the right and you are not entitled to the prize.

However, it would be a foolish line for them to take considering the bad publicity they could recieve. Make a little noise and you'll get it.
