This morning's News letter [19/01] has a piece by Sammy Wilson who issues double warnings to, one his own side, the hardliners that they're deluded in thinking they can put off Policing and Justice transfer indefinitely, and to Sinn Fein, with a scarcely veiled threat that if they pull the plug on this assembly, it may be difficult to get a new assembly up and running in the aftermath of an election.
Wilson is implying here that if the First Minister post is filled by SF, they [DUP] would in effect cut off their own noses to spite their faces by refusing to fill the Deputy FM's post. The problem with that approach for DUP is, that they're unlikely to be the main Unionist group in that event, and anyway, that will encourage SF voters to come out in bigger numbers in future, and make sure Unionists are deprived of power here indefinitely.
Unionists can't prevent this happening other than to serve as deputy to Marty. And all thanks to Iris Robinson's attempt at a remake of 'The Graduate with her bit on the side. You couldn't make it up.
