    Hey
Im pregnant (9weeks) and have noticed strange smells... i'v noticed a burning smell like a fire a few times, and I have noticed cigarette smoke type smell a few times too... has anyone experienced this? Is it normal?
Im worried that the burning smell is a sign of miscarriage - I think I might have read that somewhere but im not sure...

    Thanks :)

    Hi Emma
Heightened sense of smell is extremely common in early pregnancy. Heightened like it's a superpower.
Probably someone is smoking in the building next door :-)

    Try not to worry. Really.

I used to feel sick at the smell of things in the fridge when the fridge door was closed! And I could smell a butchers shop from miles away.
I think it's supposed to help identify 'dodgy' food.

Hightened Sense of Smell? Evolutionary Trait of a Defensive Mechanism while trying to birth a child? ...........Much?

Prefectly normal, happens to a fair few women, not sure why maybe it's to make sure we don't eat food which is gone of while pregant. It can be annoying but you can try using an oil burner at home wiht a smell you like to ease it.

I had a hyper-sensitive sense of smell and taste when pregnant. I could actually smell the soap people used from the other side of the room, or peoples breath from walking past them, euuugh! It was most acute for the first 3 months or so & then it went back to normal. :)

    Perfectly normal.

I can still smell things from across the room.
