Ryanair won't transfer luggage between passengers.

This is the lowest of the low. I've flown with Ryanair frequently since I can remember, I've never had a really good reason to give out about them before as they do exactly what they say and nothing else. Today that all changed though.

There are 3 of us supposed to be flying out on Thur morning to Italy; we'd gotten 2 bags between 3 of us as we don't pack heavy. Now as one of the lads can't get time off work he's not coming so I called Ryanair to get the bag changed into one of the other 2 passengers names...

Was met with some crap about how the small print says baggage transfer is not allowed, the girl said straight up "The passenger who cannot come loses the cost of the flight and of the bag.". This is absolutely ridiculous.

No. It's in the terms and conditions you agreed to as part of the booking process.

    As you say yourself:
they do exactly what they say and nothing else

What were you expecting? And booking flights and baggage with Ryanair before you confrim time off is risky, to say the least.

Not saying it's fair - I'm with you on that point - but this is the kind of stunt you have to be wary of.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

    Wow harsh crowd.

It doesn't matter if it's in the terms and conditions it's still low grade.

I've always been of the opinion they were harsh but fair in an overly efficient way. Most of the other things people come to hate Ryanair for have a reason which at the end of the day benefits the cost and punctuality of the flights for everyone and I can understand that.

Changing the tick box on a flight itinerary for who has the bag that's already paid for and accounted for is just being nasty. Even if it's a little more difficult with regards paperwork, especially in these terrorist fearing times, the bag is not being introduced or removed from the plane, the weight will be the same and the passenger numbers remain the same. It is a total disgrace.

It's funny how many people are, until Ryanair do something that impacts them: suddenly the rules become unfair/illegal/a travesty of justice/abuse of human rights etc.

Imposing these penalties is part of how they keep the cost of your flights low.

BuffyBot you're not listening. Everything else they do can and does have an impact on price. There is no charge for changing a bag between passengers they just won't do it, how does this manage costs or effectiveness?

of course there is no charge to change bag between passengers. as its not permitted as per T&Cs.

If it was permitted, there would be a charge...

OP, you're not going to get any satisfaction by having a go at posters for stating fact and not showing you sympathy for your plight.

Ryanair rules ARE unfair. But I know what they are and I agree to abide by them. If I think it's going to impact me, I find out beforehand and fly someone else. As I said earlier, I'd never book a Ryanair flight without first making sure I had time off work, let alone but my name down on shared baggage.

Well, it actually does. You ticked the box accepting their "low grade" terms and conditions. If you didn't like them, you were free to book with someone else. What is the point in accepting the T+Cs and then coming on here and moaning about it when Ryanair enforce those T+Cs?

It's all part and parcel of the Ryanair experience. Wasting your time and energy blowing off steam about it. Next time, fly with someone else.

    But you won't, will you?

There wasn't a whole pile of time or energy wasted, you guys wasted more in replying to my vent. I'm sitting at a computer working anyway. I was just venting which generaly improves my mood =)

If they charged me to change the bag I'd be fine about it, what's not fine is simply saying it's money lost in my opinion.

Did I find the Ryanair employee sub forum or something =P ?

Do you all read all the T&Cs for everything? Really? I doubt it...
"When Doug Heckman was installing a PC Pitstop program, he actually read the EULA. In it, he found a clause stating that he could get financial compensation if he e-mailed PC Pitstop. The result: a $1,000 check, and proof that people don't read EULAs (3,000 people before him didn't notice it). The goal of this was to prove that one should read all EULAs, so that one can see if an app is spyware if it is buried in the EULA."
