hmm seems odd all right. Could be an error, I qualify for the non-adjacent grant and got a letter stating I was getting adjacent, which is about half of the non-adjacent. We emailed them, they said they would fix it and got another letter with the same error on it. I'd say keep trying emailing and calling, as far as I know you can appeal the decision.

just thought i'd update you all on progress.....finally got speaking to lovely girl in council grant office ..very helpful she explained you have to write a change of circimstances letter giving yet again all details of income , she thinks that a mistake has been made along the line and we should get more so fingers crossed..
Bad news it wont be processed soon but should be done before end of year !!!!
Also all you hard up students the second phase is out today but our wonderful goverment have taken the 5% off so any one thinking they are getting €571 you are only getting €541 and the girl from the grant office says they got notice last week to deduct it ...funny how that can get processed so quickly but when we are trying to get money from them its a differant case
    thanks & good luck
