Yes I agree with Casey......he'll be relishing a return. However he may be still a bit rusty.

    Westwood........the man in form.

Darren Clarke........he'll be trying hard to get points as he will miss some of the bigger tournaments.

Rory.......will have learnt from last year and will end up No. 1 in Europe. What a 3 ball....Stenson, McIlroy, Garcia.

Fisher......I think he'll improve this year and will be hard to beat.

    Outside bet........Michael Hoey.

I think Casey will be up there again, he's won it twice before and it's his second tournament of the year (had a decent showing in the states a week or two ago IIRC). Isn't it the first tournament of the year for a lot of the top players...so potentially a bit of rust for some.

Also, I think Kaymer will be up there. A real class act IMO and has won this before and came second to Casey last year.

Louis Oosthuisen had a good run of results in the desert last year (Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Qatar) so horses for courses and all that and may be worth an each way.

I'm going to this on Saturday, looking forward to it.

i have a few quid on clarke e/w. He played great from tee to green last week in south africa but his putting let him down badly at times. if he gets that sorted i think he could be in with a shout.

Lowry one off the lead on -11

I don't think people where writing him off.

I started a thread on areas he could work on (scrambling for me and fitness) and seems like he has been working hard on his game and gaining the rewards.

    Fairplay to him

I reckon Lowry is doing about as well as McIlroy did in his first yr as a pro.Given that he came to the sport quite late I reckon the learning curve will be very steep so I think he'll improve quickly.

It took mcilroy about a year to come up to speed after that one great performance in dunhill links.

Another decent round from Shane today, only 2 behind at 12 under at the moment.Very impressed with his putting.

its set up for a good finale, some great players in or around the top. Thought Sergio was looking like a new man on the greens the first two days but alas he was back to his usual self today. Would love to see rory take it down, could really set him up for a great year.

    Some good tips:

Here are all the pre-tournament tips from above:

Well Lowry doesn't count as nobody tipped him.

    In the Top 10 -

    Martin Kaymer: -15 (1st)
    Rory McIroy: -14 (2nd)
    Peter Hanson: -13 (4th)
Shane Lowry: -12 (5th) - not tipped before start
    Eduardo Molinari: -10 (9th)
    Louis Oosthuizen: -10 (9th)

    Others:

    Geoff Ogilvy: -7 (25th)
    Paul Casey: -6 (31st)
    Darren Clarke: -3 (47th)

    Missed Cut:

Oliver Wilson: Par (86th - missed cut)
Michael Hoey: Par (86th - Missed Cut)
    Lee Westwood: +3 (105th - missed cut)
    Danny Willett:+6 (115th - missed cut)

If only gambling was legal over here in Abu Dhabi :(

Nice result for Lowry, only 2 bogeys all week. This should surely give him a massive boost and help him create a platform for a successful season.

I followed him for a few holes on Saturday and I was very impressed with how he was playing and also his attitude. Anyone who says he doesn't have what it takes to compete on the European Tour is way off the mark IMO.

As always, McIlroy was the most impressive (well I say as always; however Westwood's performance at the Dubai World Championships for me was as impressive as when I say Tiger win the World Golf Championship in Mount Juliet - 2002 I think). The only thing I would say about McIlroy is that he just doesn't hole his fair share of puts, but every other aspect of his game is just so good. I know he hits more greens than 95% of the field but I still think it's the one area of his game that could possibly improve slightly. I mean if he had the putting skills of say Tiger, he could possibly of won another 3-4 tournaments last year, who knows possibly more. What a talent all the same.

Poulter seems to be a bit of a shorter hitter than Kaymer and McIlroy, was a little surprised at this. He put in a great showing all the same.

Yeah thought this too. He had a hell of a lot of putts this week that he 'just missed' (I recall in the Lough Erne Challenge the same happened, although he still broke the course record!!) when he gets this aspect of his game cracked, which he will, well Tiger and co really have to look out.
