Well with Fitzgibbon, Sigerson as well as the Freshers Championships on the horizon, thought I'd make the thread. Who will you be cheering on, who'll be the important players, discuss warm up games etc.

As a student there, it's DCU all the way for me. The Sigerson team looks really strong this year and drew UCD in the first round at home. Lovely mouth-watering tie to start us off considering UCD are a good side themselves. DCU'll have home advantage though and I like to think we can win that. To be honest I like to think that the winner of this match could win the whole thing!

The Freshers had a terrible league campaign despite being in the presence of Michael Murphy. However their warm up games against the county U-21 sides have been positive so far. They lost by a point to Wicklow, drew with Dublin and beat Louth by 1/2 (can't remember). They're becoming a bit of a one-man side (Murphy) though and they need their forward lines to step up a bit if they're to have an impact in the Championship. John Keegan in midfield needs to show why he's a scholarship student, too. Hasn't looked decent as of yet. Their half back line is decent enough, though, with Eamonn Doherty (Donegal U-21s) at centre back and Greg Gibson (Kerry minor) at wing back looking impressive. Sean Cairns at full-forward is as strong as an ox as well and has looked decent since his promotion from the B side. They've DIT in the first round. They were battered by them in the league this year but, like I've said, DCU have looked like they're beginning to gel a bit better now.

The Hurlers are in the Ryan Cup for the last time before getting promoted to the Fitzgibbon Cup next year. They should be amongst the favourites having won the league already this year.

The Freshers play Pats in the first round of the Championship. They played them earlier in the year and lost by about 3 points I believe. Like the footballers they've gelled more and more as the season's gone by after a below-par league campaign. They've an easy route to the Semi-Finals if they can play to their potential. Walter Walsh (Kilkenny minor) and Eddie Byrne (Carlow senior) are amongst their players, with Walsh on the senior team as well. JJ Lennon and Aidan Moran (both Kilkenny) are also on the senior team.
