It may be something to do with the fact he is a bit of a tool. :pac:

Can you explain this one for me? I was of the opinion that Ponting was actually a top bloke?

    Geoff Boycott
    Ian Botham
    Darren Gough
    Chris Old
    David Bairstow (RIP)

Andrew Flintoff and Phil Neville were discounted as they are from Lancashire - Botham only just scrapes in ahead of Brian Close, despite being from Cheshire

    3) Ponto

    2) The Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar
    3) Sachin -If Cricket is a religion, Sachin is the God
    4) Sachin
    5) Sachin

Sachin is without doubt one of my favourite non-English players (he did play for Yorkshire, after all)

My other favourite "overseas" player would have to be Viv Richards - way ahead of all other batsmen during his (very long) "era"

Of the bowlers, the Big Bird, Joel Garner was something special, and different from all the other "fast" bowlers

(I consider Australians to be the overseas equivalent of Lancastrians, and therefore by definaition cannot be considered as "favourites" in my eyes:))

Good to see someone else go for Shoaib Akhtar :)...

If I was forced to go against my principles, and choose an Aussie it would probably be Adam Gilchrist, and my token Lancastrian would be Michael Vaughan:)

good to see a bit of Chris Gayle love though!

Still Plays IPL. And if Hauritz did not progress he may have been recalled to Aussie squad, if they lost to Windies or Pakistan. He is still the best spinner in the world, dont even suggest chucker Murali who takes 9-50 against Bangladesh and Zimbabwe, and 2-150 vs Aus and India.

    wow chill man

    im shane warne's biggest fan!!

no way he is ever coming back to the international scene though man, i have never been overly hot on Murili, i think i would take plenty of wickets v Bangladesh! he is a top spinner mind, Warne is always gonna be the king though

Slightly surprised that Ambrose and/or Walsh don't feature more. 924 wickets between them in the 90s. As much as you can have Lara, Adams, Gayle, Chanderpaul, if you don't get 20 wickets, you'll faulter. Absolutely frightening particularly Ambrose..

One of my earliest cricket memories:

    M Atherton c somebody b Ambrose - 17 times :pac:

    1) Warne
    2) Gilchrist
    3) Fraser
    4) McCallan
    5) Vettori

All this talk of Ponting being a tool is nonsense. I've run into the man a few times watching cricket around the world (just happend to be in the same hotel as the Australian team on a few occasions) and regardless of the continent or the circumstance he was always friendly and polite and more than willing to have a chinwag.
He might cut a moany figure out in the middle sometimes but the pressure he is under and the stick he has taken since he got the job probably adds to that.

If you want to file a fabulous cricketer under 'tool' then stick in Yuvraj Singh. By far and away the biggest dickhead I've ever had the misfortune to meet. Arrogant and concieted beyond belief

    My top 5 are
    1. Bradman (99 average ) need i say more
    2. Graeme Pollock (SA legend 60 ave) short career due to sports boycott
    3. Sachin Tendulkar (a dream to watch when in full flow + nice person)
    4. Shane Warne (Great Bowler)
    5. Muttiah Muralitharan (most wickets in test history)

There are loads of great players who i am sure could be argued should be on this list.

judging by this you are an India fan. Harbejan is a racist and Akhtar was speed but not real control (what was his test average?)
    kumble i would argue for

You don't really get the whole sarcasm thing do you?

Also, thats a very poor judgement to make.

Fair point, I haven't contributed so far. Rather than favourites, I'm going to list the top 5 I've seen in the flesh, so they're ones I enjoyed watching. It's in no particular order:

    1) Kyle McCallan - his action has always been a joy to watch, and he was no slouch with the bat either

    2) Mkaya Ntini (too lazy to check spelling) - a great bowler in his day, and provided constant encouragement to his team-mates

    3) Shane Warne - saw him in 1999 in Old Trafford, genius cricketer

    4) Ed Joyce - great batsman, another joy to watch when he's in full flow

    5) Dave Langford-Smith - scariest bowler I've ever faced (in the nets), nicest guy off the field

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,025 ✭✭✭d'Oracle

Lot of joy from watching cricket there.

    I like it.
