The media (e.g Sunday World) just glorify these thugs with overblown names like 'The Don'.

'The Knacker', would be more like it.

Giving a nickname only makes them sound glamourous.

Don't tell me it's for libel laws.
If the newspaper has evidence and is willing to stand over it then just name the individual.

wow, imagine being charged with being a scumbag?! how clean and nice would the streets be? There would certainly be a lot less births.

Here and here are the only two pieces of news I could find on him, I remember reading these in the Herald but other than that I'd never heard of him. Cutting edge journalism or sensationalistic nonsense? :p

Ahh. I see. It's standard AH territory then.
    See below for details.

I heard from inside sources he was one of them but flipped.

I call it sensationalist nonsense. If Messrs. Murphy and Byrne wanted to give their articles some credibility they could have done a bit more investigation and found out this Don's name. Suppose it's Tony O'Looney? He wouldn't sound so high and mighty then, would he?

I find this Don more scary!
