Would you like somebody to hold your hand? Of course people go on their own. EDIT: That second sentence wasn't there when I posted. I still stand by what I said though.

Maybe you should try hacky-sack instead?

Jokes aside, how serious is "too serious"?

Some brutal enough replies here. You don't need to be so rigidly serious to enjoy martial arts. Alot of people go to clubs just for fun. OP shouldn't be penalised for wanting to enjoy martial arts. I did TKD for a number of years and found a relaxed environment to be the one i was happiest with.

I was in a club where people couldn't talk out of turn once and i never went back, thats my idea of too serious, maybe the OP means something similar?

try some other clubs, I know from first hand experience that an instructor/athmosphere can turn you completly off a martial art.

My advice would be don't change arts, just try some other clubs that offer the same martial arts. If you still can't find one, then maybe try some other arts.

Of course people go on their own. You'll never get around to doing anything if you're waiting for other people.

My wife always seems to be "starting" something with a friend: swimming, kickboxing, pilates, salsa dancing, etc: they never do more than 1 or 2 weeks until one of them can't make it for whatver lame reason, and then they stop. A few weeks later, all I hear is "I'm thinking of starting activity X with X from work".

    Second this. :)

Not all attitudes are created equal unfortunately.

sometimes you take the lifts too seriously Chris89, i'm just more chilled out and prefer driving with sunglasses on.

The club may not suit your needs then. When I go to train I got to train, not stand around shooting the breeze. That doesn't mean I drive everyone I can into the mat, nor does it mean I'm treated that way. Some clubs train to an extremely intense (though not necessarily high) level, so clubs take it softly softly.
im a chilled out dude, if people take things too serious i get fed up

And other people get fed up if things are too casual.

As for you original question, most people join clubs on their own. If you gel with the other people training they become your mates, if not, you find another club/another sport.

Not sure if this was a troll or not

Which club is in Ballybrack? Who runs it? I'm not sure.

There are 2 clubs in that general area:

    Dave Jones http://www.nextgenerationireland.com/training-times/

    and Colm O'reilly http://spartanmma.com/

not sure if you can get any more laid back than Colm's gym. You should check it out.
