[BREAKING NEWS] Andre Berto Withdraws from Shane Mosley Bout

    By Robert Morales
With Andre Berto having pulled out of his Jan. 30 fight with "Sugar" Shane Mosley because of the massive earthquake in Haiti, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer said Monday afternoon he is already trying to put together a fight between Mosley and Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Mayweather was scheduled to fight Manny Pacquiao on March 13 at MGM Grand in Las Vegas, but that fight fell apart over Mayweather's request for Olympic-style drug-testing for both fighters.
"I know this is the fight Shane wanted and I know it is a fight Floyd wanted as well," said Schaefer to BoxingScene.com. Golden Boy promotes Mosley and has a working arrangement with Mayweather. "So now I'm going to work and see if we can put that fight together."
Schaefer and Golden Boy still have the MGM Grand reserved for March 13 for Mayweather. But Schaefer wouldn't say whether Mosley-Mayweather would fill that date, or a different one, such as May 1.
"I think the first thing is going to be to see if a deal structure can be done, and then worry about the date," Schaefer said. "Floyd Mayweather against Shane Mosley is one of the biggest fights in the sport. They are two superstars, it would be a pick-em fight.
"The date will fall into place, but the first thing is to find a deal structure that is acceptable to everyone. That is what I'm working on."

    Andre Berto's Statement:

Since the 7.0 earthquake struck Haiti on Tuesday evening, I have been focusing on my family and the Haitian people who are facing an inconceivable battle for survival while still trying to continue to prepare for an opportunity I have dreamt of since childhood. I lost several family members to the earthquake and after two days without word, was relieved to learn that my sister, Naomi and her daughter, Jessica survived, but were left homeless. I have seen the pain in my parents’ eyes as they attempt to understand what has happened to our homeland and recognize a place they once called home..

As a result of this disaster, I am mentally and physically exhausted and therefore I have no choice but to withdraw from my bout on January 30.

Throughout the past six days, I have received an incredible outpouring of support, and I sincerely appreciate everyone’s prayers for the people of Haiti. I hope that everyone will continue to keep the Haitian people in their thoughts and prayers as we work to rebuild this proud nation. The rebuilding of Haiti is not something that will happen overnight, but I am fully dedicated to helping the Haitian people recover from this catastrophic event.

I like Berto and I know that he has always been close to his people,
But do you think there was "step aside" money involved somewhere here?
Helping Floyd and Mosley get a fight sooner?
    Just a thought...........

Who knows if its true, we will never know......
Apart from a fight with Manny this will be a big seller,
I hope they get it for 13th of March, it would hammer Mannys ratings

HBO should do a double header, that would be so cool.......
Both winners fight eachother later in the year.
Which would lead to of course Mayweather vs Pacquiao

I'm still hopeful of Floyd V Pac, but Floyd would never signed up for that deal. Anyway pac is no certainty over Clottey and the same would go for Mosley V PBF

I'm hopeful for it too, I don't Manny is on roids he will take the tests,
I think Pac is too quick for Clottey, Clottey gives up after 4 rounds,
If he bets Pac it will be by KO in first 4-6 rounds Max....
Floyd will Outbox Mosley, He wont be as stupid as Marg to just walk into his punches,
If Mayorga can outbox Mosley, Floyd wont have a problem imo

It is laughable that you say Clottey gives up after 4 rounds. Prove it?

    Yes Rich ,..... its a step-aside thing .
And the timing is beautiful .............. right on the eve of TOP RANK's formal announcement of the Pac - Clottey fight .

Golden-boy will attempt to upstage this press conference with the Mosley-Mayweather announcment !

It should still be Mar 13th , I would imagine . and will be more slightly more attractive than Pac's bout .

This will be great , and we will finally get to see Floyd face a top Welter .

Stupid move from Mayweather , he's gettin his chin smashed this time.
    The O's gotta go .

Cant wait to see Pacman v Mosley in the final :)
and Shane will prove himself the best fighter of our era - god willing.

Clottey never broke his hand he stated this in many interviews long after that fight,
also look at the last 2 rounds of the Cotto fight, he was close in that fight and should of been going hard to win the last rounds cause he was in with a chance, but he hardly threw any punches

When I seen the headline I thought yeah, step aside money but I'd give him the benefit of the doubt here in that he wanted to pull out given the circumstances. For his own sake I hope he didnt just say im pulling out and did in fact get step aside money.

I favour Floyd to beat Shane.

According to ESPN eight of his family members died in the earthquake,
    terrible news :(

well Manny is supposed to be fighting in Dallas Cowboys stadium. Any Mayweather fight would surely take place in Vegas. Thats two hours I think.

Going to demand Shane submits to olympic style testing Floyd? Or is that not applicable to fellow GBers?

According to boxingscene.com, yes, any future Mayweather opponent will be subjected to
this testing. I think Floyd will be too fast and clever for the aging Shane

The testing should be in when you actually think about it, 1 month is loads of time to get the drugs out of your system, as for PBF beating Mosley, i believe he would but this is not a dead cert and Shane would make a great fight of it..

Would be a great fight to make before the pac v pbf super dooper fight

Fair enough didn't know he stated that.
He hardly threw any punches in the whole of the Cotto fight, he really should have won that fight. He's a big tough welterweight, if only he did show more bravery with his punches he could be a danger to Manny.

He didn't break the hand but he did injure it, it wasn't a case of him giving up after 4 rounds. Why the hell would anyone give up after 4 rounds when they're winning and more than capable of sustaining the fight the way it was ?

Just like Zab Judah does, No heart and determination,
They get Frustrated and Gameplan goes out the window......
If Zab Judah fought the same way he does for the first four rounds of a fight,
for the whole 12 rounds, I believe he would be down as an ATG

What because Shane Mosley has nothing to hide, so will take the tests?
If Manny had nothing to hide he would of taken the tests too,
Manny comes off real bad in this.......
I still think a fight will be made tho, When Floyd Outboxes and Humiliates Mosley,
And the PPV ratings go through the roof and Flatten Manny-Clottey, Floyd will have alot better negotiating power, Im sure he will still take 50-50....
I can hear all the Floyd haters now after he beats Mosley,
All the excuses "Mosley was out for too long,"
"Mosley is too old," "Prime Mosley kills Floyd" etc etc.....
I hope Floyd finally gets some Credit after he beats Shane,
Im not discrediting Mosley, I just think Floyd is way too Quick for him

Judah's main problems are stamina, concentration and the fact he can't adapt during a fight when things aren't going right.
He is a fantastic fighter early in fights but fades, but it's not due to a lack of want.

Clottey is nothing like Judah imo.

So if the fight is for early May should Shane take a tune up bout?
As for drug testing I think random testing should be standard procedure.

HBO has given the march 13th slot to Pacman V Clottey .

No chance of them combining the two , and asking people to pay over 100 squid as a PPV fee.

Its shockingly high as it is ....... Mayweather is prompting the increase of PPV costs to over 60 US$ !!
I mean thats crazy stuff , 60 brick to watch it on your own tv ?
I belive this greed has destroyed the sport , and much more responsible than the state of the heavyweight division !!

with that kind of subsciption fee , you lose all the casual fans and all the enthusiasts who just cant afford it
He then has the cheek to come out bragging about his fortunes from tv sales ....grrrr

So I cant wait to see Mosley chin this guy .

All roads lead to Shane Mosley ....... reserved with a plot .

There'll be a few Mayweather fan-boys disappearing from boards.ie after Floyd gets brutally ko'ed .
I'll be around to rub the salt in your wounds guyz :)

It's a shame floyd has a jab, mosely can't deal with jabs very well anymore,he's going to lose.

Its also a shame Mayweather cant handle an evenly matched opponent , Lets see how Floyd looks when he's 38 years old smiley-violent015.gif.

Mosley will have been off for a year an a half by fightnight , and he'll still rise above it .
    No excuses

The only trouble Mosley has with fighters is when they run .
He'll make Mayweather look like Usain Bolt on May 1st.

Ya, I know, it's been said time and time again,Mosley in his prime would of been too much for Floyd.Nice analogy :)
