Job Seekers Allowance and Self-employment

    Hi there,

I was self-employed but work has dried up. I made an application for job seekers allowance. The situation is that I formed a company as that was the only way to manage my contracts but the company has ceased operating - there has been no money coming in, but I haven't wound it up officially. According to my accountant it would be quite costly and I don't have those kind of funds at the moment.

I will be means tested and basically I'm wondering that in order to qualify for job seekers allowance does the company need to close or can my accountant just give me a letter to confirm that it is not currently trading and will not be operating in the forseeable future?

I really don't know how these things work. I have been working for fifteen years in the one area and never had to seek governemtn assistance before.

Your advice would be most welcome

    Many thanks
