What's this component called....

And where can I get a spare?

Whacked the rear derailleur off some iron railings and it came off, breking this component in two. It's an aluminium (?) thing which attaches the derailleur to the frame at the dropout. It's a Tiagra 8sp on a Giant SCR3 (2008).

I've attached some pics (sorry about the size):

Here's what's left of it attached to the derailleur

Here's how it should look on it's own:

And here's how it looks now:

I'd rather buy a spare and put in myself rather than humiliate myself at the LBS again.

    Many many thanks.

Its the rear mech hanger, and its bike specific. You should be able to get one of these online but it must be deisgned for your bike! Try CRC, Wiggle or Evans, not sure which one supplies Giant.

I think El Tonto had a link for some crowd that specialize in rear mech hangers, although being an SCR they are quite common so there is a chance cyclesuperstore have some in their workshop.

You need to search for Giant derailleur hanger and compare the pictures.

    Probably:

    http://www.cyclesportsuk.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=4149 (cheap)
    http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=14760

It's easy to replace yourself, as long as you get the right one.

http://derailleurhanger.com/ or maybe you might even be lucky with http://www.pedalon.co.uk/acatalog/suspensionspares.html

You would probably br able to pick one up in your lbs if they are a Giant dealer! Nothing to be embarrassed about at all, it is a very common part to be damaged or broken. Even a minor knock/bang can slight bend it and cause havoc with the shifting performance. You will probably be looking to spend between €10-€20 for it though (at least this little but takes the impact and prevents your frame getting damaged!)

NOTE: Some may look very similar but they need to be the exact same for it to work properly ;)

Blorgs first link looks like the one. Thanks Blorg.

I'd tracked down http://www.derailleurhanger.com/index.htm by searching el tonto's old posts, so that's something I'll keep in the bookmarks too.
I'll probably ring a couple of LBS' and see if they have them.

    Thanks dudes, you're all outstanding.
