I ordered some thing online with visa and the payment went through paypal . i had calculated what it would cost in euro but did not know paypal took a euro. I am not annoyed at the money but at the way it happened. There was a chance to take a different conversion but i chose the paypal way as i am not used to having to order through paypal.

Is this usual. I just wonderd if if would have been a cheaper conversion rate had i gone the other choice

What do you mean "took a euro", how did you calculate it, I hope not using XE.com, not even the mastermind head of the secret society who owns all the world banks can get the XE rate!

I have compared the 2 before, and visa is just a little bit better than paypal conversion rates. You can check before paying, there is a site with visa's current rate -it allows you to input what your bank will take in % too, and in paypal you can log on and attempt to send money in any currency you want and it will show what it will cost in euro, without you having to go through with the payment.

If using XE I just add on ~3% to get a more realistic conversion rate.

in my account Paypal is down as the seller and merchant amount is just under a euro 97 cents

I just checked that, its almost the same as XE.com so best add on ~3% to all figures

When I checked my 3v account i discovered the euro has been repaid to me? I wondered is it because paypal are paid by the merchant and only take it from me till they are paid by him? Don't know but my credit is a euro more than last time i posted

Paypal don't take any money from buyers. The initial charge is for card verification, and is always returned. Any time you verify a new card, this will be done. When using 3V, this is particularly annoying, as 3V vouchers have a very short validity time, and you'll be adding new ones often.
