Audi A4 suspension rattle

I have a 04 Audi A4 TDI 130 s-line and it has an annoying rattle in the front suspension.

I've asked 2 garages (1 main and 1 independent) to fix it and both have came back saying they can't find the source. It seems to me that it's getting worse and I can feel it sometimes through the pedals. It's most obvious when the driver's side window is open and I'm driving over the expansion joints on a concrete road.

It's feels and sounds like metal on metal and while I'm confident, after the garages checking, that it's not something dangerous, it really annoys me and I'd love to get rid of it.

I'm just posting here in hope that someone may have experience with this and therefore knows how to fix it, my car is due it's service shortly so I'd appreciate any suggestions that I could suggest to the mechanic when it's in the garage.

    Thanks.

Edit: I have googled it and checked on Audi forums and I can't find an answer.

I had the same problem before in my A4.I had the brake pads replaced and the mechanic never fitted one of the shoes correctly. It's worth checking?

As above it could be incorectly fitted pads a stone in the caliper a droplink could be anything really your best bet is to get the mechanic to go out on test drive with you and show him how its making the noise theyl no more then.It can be very tricky for a mechanic to diagnose a rattle if they take it for a test drive and dont hear it so bring them with you and tell them when you hear it and show them
