    Hi Folks

I'm meeting with my dealer tomorrow to discuss the prices of upgarding my Honda civic 1.8 saloon to a 09 of the same car and spec.

Just wondering what people think this should cost me?

If I look at the CBG.ie the 2006 usual price is about 11750 with one priced at 10k cheapest 09 model is 20,950 all dealers

    is it just as simple as saying 20,950 - 11750 = 9200

    Would people agree or disagree?

Just dont want to get screwed and I know you cant screw a dealer so what would you offer??

    All help greatly appreciated...

    Kev.

Id say knock 25% off average price of yours, knock 10% off the 09, the diffence is what Id expect as a starting point.

What's the details of yours, just out of curiosity? What's the mileage, colour, spec etc?

I'd try to find a diesel one tbh. Same power, more torque, more mpg but much lower tax. Or if you must have the saloon try the hybrid model. A 1.8 petrol Civic will be saleproof in a few years' time when the low CO2 diesels with low road tax(I know its not a big difference tax wise and petrols don't have DMFs like diesels do but Irish people have a massive hang up about buying cars that are higher in road tax) are more common than they are now.

I'm in the same position as the OP. 2006 Civic saloon 1.8L and was looking into upgrading to an Accord diesel (2007 or thereabouts) but it would have cost me a fortune as I was changing to a higher "bracket" of car.

Friend of mine changed to a diesel Civic (2008) and he needed to have the clutch replaced after 30K . Apparently the same thing occurred with Accords of that year. Problem has been resolved now I believe.

    Thanks Lads for the responses...

My car is 06 civic saloon 70,000 km usual spec 1.8l engine. sunroof, alloys. A/c etc... Wishing to trade for exactly the sasme in a 09 model...

TBH I love the car, great car to drive, plenty of room for family etc

As for a diesel option dont have one in the Saloon only option is the 1.4 hybrid which just isnt the same car..

The civic model is now 4 years old and I reckon will be upgraded next year. When that happens I suspect the co2 emmisions will be lowered as at 156 it just needs to lower the co2 output by 1 to be in the lower bracket.. who knows we may get a diesel version then..

So from the few repsonses I got would 10k be a fair deal for both parties.. Of course I will try for less but just wondering what people think?

    Thanks
    Kev.

To trade up 3 years will cost you around €12k imo, 1.8 litre petrol Civics are difficult enought to shift.

Is there anything actually wrong with the 06 Civic, or are you just trying to trade up a few years?

Now, I've nothing against people buying cars (keeps me in a job), but trading up for a newer model of the same car just seems a bit pointless to me when it's only for the sake of a different number on the front of the car.

It's likely the civic will still be running almost as well in 10 years time as it is now, with regular servicing.

    Hi Folks,

Thanks for the replies... No nothing wrong with 06 civic apart from needing a service and the nct... Just trading up a few years to keep the wife and family in a decent car while i drive around in my 00 run around..

Garage already has a buyer for the 06 civic so unless I get a decent price the car will be staying put... I wont be paying 12k to trade up 3 years thats for sure... 10 is more what I have in mind and if the garage cant do a deal so be it...

    Kev.
