Moving house when on JSA - need to inform SWO?

Hopefully this only needs a quick answer, but couldn't find anything on welfare.ie/citizensinformation.ie...

I'm on JSA and going to be moving house next week, staying within Dublin but going to a different area (i.e. covered by a different SWO). Do I need to inform the social and 'relocate' my sign-on and post office to my new neighbourhood, or can I continue to do so in my current, 'home' neighbourhood? (I have no probs with doing the latter, as I can come out to visit my family on those days).

I'm thinking of calling in for a chat with the Community Welfare Officer, as I don't think I'll qualify for rent supplement but would like to just be 100% clear on what I am or am not entitled to. If my SWO and post office remains in my original home area, should I go to the CWO in my new neighbourhood or the former?

Sorry if I've managed to make this sound more complicated than it actually is!

Sorry to hijack your thread CamillaRhodes but I was about to post a similar question so hope you don’t mind if I add my question to yours.

I’m on JSA (part time/casual work) and am currently living at home but planning on moving in the near future, also to a different Social Welfare Office area. I know you are required to inform SW if you’re changing address but I’ve heard different opinions on how this will affect SW payment, especially if it’s to a different SWO area.

I was told by a friend that you have to start from scratch in the new SW office and be means tested all over again, which of course could take ages, but I’ve heard from other sources that it’s just a matter of informing them of your new address and they’ll just transfer your file to the new office and your payments continue as usual.

Does anyone know for sure which is true? I’d be really stuck if I had to wait months for a new application to go through. Would almost be tempted to not bother informing them of the change of address and just collect my cheques from my mother’s house, even though I know that’s a no-no!

Thanks in advance for any info, and apologies again CamillaRhodes for hijacking, I’m new to posting (though a long-time lurker:o) so hope it’s not bad Boards etiquette!
