    You one of the organisers?

    No goodie bag ;)

Looks like a decent event, is this the first year of it?

Yep. I'm one of the organisers.
This is the first year and indeed there is a goodie bag!:)
It's a good test of stamina but not a severe one!
And hopefully a great party after!!

    Good luck with it.

Are the kayaks a 1 man or 2 man?
Do you have timeouts at any stage, in the wait for the kayak or that?

Whats the logic behind the time trial, we were talking about that last night a few of us and couldn't figure out why its a time trial.

Them pictures on the site look familiar, did you take them at that event last year? ;)

    Hi there,
Eventually coming back to ur queries... system glitches!!

At the moment we are preparing to have 50No. 2-man kayaks -
    • There will not be any timing out as we have timed the event that there will be a steady trickle of racers...
    • We have limited the amount of participants so we have an ample supply of kayaks
    • The start and finish of the kayak stage is the same place, therefore we do not have the worry of kayaks being left on the opposite shore
    • The course distance is very short so it will only be a 10-15 minute turn around
    • We will have a speedboat on the lake to hurry them on... ha ha!:D
As for the time trial, it is a little quirky event to break up the monotony of the cycle.
We will be giving prizes for the various stages of the race... not only the overall winners... giving the participants more opportunities to win a stage at their strongest discipline, be it cycling, cross country running, hill running or kayaking.;)

The pics were taken at the Achill Roar event last year. It was a fabulous day!

    You'll be fine!
You could win that leg of the race!!
You will be wearing a life jacket & there will be lifeguards on the water... No worries!

    Hi,

Are the cycle stages on road or offroad tracks?
Just want to know what kind of bike is better suited to this, racer or mtb?
    Thanks

    Hi there,
All cycle stages are on the road... A racer is definitely the preferred option...

I was out for a cycle yesterday evening and I went over some of the JiTB route. Some people are obviously taking this event fairly seriously. 2 very nice carbon bikes hidden at the start of the race. Spotted the 2 owners of the bikes out running the first leg of the bog run. The cycle route is fairly undulating with some rough sections of road. I'm guessing a fair few volunteers will be needed as there are quite a few junctions on the course. A road bike / tri bike is a must for this event. I think it will suit a cyclist more than a runner too.

    Should be a good event.

Lots of not so friendly dogs on the route too! :D

Pity it's on the same day as Achill otherwise it would get a few more people taking part. I'm doing Achill this year but will give it a go next year, so will be interested ot hear how it goes.

Knockma is a killer, I've only done it a few times but really need to increase my hill training ahead of Achill so will be out there a good bit over the next month or so. The inclines make my quads burn.

That's the half marathon, because the adventure race is on in september in Achill. Good luck with it, I have heard that it's hilly, Knockma would be a great spot to do a bit of training.:)

I have signed up for this, not sure how fit I'll be after 3 weeks holiday in June but I'll give it a go. It will be a kick in the @Ss for GF if anything.

    Where is the after party?

The after party is in the bog... it'll be a little different!

I cycled part of the route last night. Good idea having JiTB signs painted on the road.

The road surface once you turn off at Moylough concrete over to the N17 is shocking. Will the organisers be working with the local council to try and get the potholes / craters on that road sorted before the race?

Me thinks this race will really suit a strong cyclist more than a runner. That's me f*cked so! :D

We met with the council two months ago to ensure all potholes will be filled. They have done the majority of the route. I will get on to them about that stretch of road & also a piece in Barnaderg...
We will be givng prizes for the various stages, so don't worry too much about being a strong cyclist.

    Enjoy the training!

I ran the bog circuit yesterday and cycled some of the route. i have to say that it is well signposted. well done to the organisers. I was a tad nervous runing across some of the planks that cross the bog holes as I wasn't sure that they were 100% sturdy. i have heard that bogs are like quicksand if you fall in:eek: As there was noone around I was slighly nervous. Itwill be interesting on the day when a couple of hundred prople are running accross. I think a video should be set up for when it does give:D

I am really looking forward to this event and it will be a great warmup of GF.

Hi Sidney, or anyone who's involved,
How uneven is the bog run part, is there a little trail or is it pure bog area that we're running? Same for the hill run, just wondering if I should tape up the ankle if it's going to be really uneven.
    Thanks!

I would deffo strap up my ankle if I were you and had a weak ankle. The bog section is very uneven for half of it. It is very hard at the moment due to all the dry weather. Some of it is on bog road so you willbe fine for that. As for the hill run, the surface is loose but not uneven, I have seen people bring prams up there so you will be grand.

How did this go on Saturday? (just being nosy). I passed by parts of the route a couple of times and saw quite a few slogging it out. There was a nice wind for you!

great day out ! Enjoyed it very much.
The wind .... that was tough !
Got soaked on the Kayak and froze to death on the way back to Corofin but that is part of the fun.
Maybe it should be renamed hell in the bog or could it be that i didn't train enough for it :D
but a warm meal and a coffee after being on the road for so long was welcome.
Looking forward to do it again next year.
The evening BBQ and ball was also great.

Did the Super 6 event, good event, well organised. The bog run was ankle breaking stuff but got through it injury free which was my main worry!
It was my first event other than just running and really enjoyed it. The kayaking was good to break up the running and cycling too. Plenty of drinks and bars throughout, and the grub at the end was excellent, and plenty of it compared to other events. One of the organisers shook my hand at the end and asked me how i found it etc which was nice considering i finished well down the rankings!
Didn't stay for the hooley at the end, I'd say it was wild!
Well done to all involved, will be back next year for the Super 8 if it's on the go!

When are the results up by the way??

really enjoyed this and felt surprisingly well at the end ! The wind was tough, but I was delighted the rain stayed away ( except for a 2 min shower on the cycle back). Got absolutely soaked in the kayak ( was sitting in the front) and I'd say we did double the distance, we were going so wide ! I did see a pair fall out near the shore on the way back, so I'd say they were a lot wetter than me.
There was a lovely woman at the end shaking hands and asking how I found it. Apparently a lot of the guys were complaining of cramps, but I kept sluugging on my bottle of sportsdrink the whole way back on the bike, so maybe that prevented the cramps.
I did see one guy collapse off the bike, coming over the finish line.
Would have loved to have stayed for the beers afterwards, but got a call after the hillrun to say that my beloved buddy( dog) was very ill and was on his way out, so I went back to Dublin. shortly after finishing. He lasted for about an hour after I got home and then passed away, so I'm glad I made the decision to come home. The tent I bought in Dunnes will have to wait until next year I guess. Will defo be back So much food and a lovely cup of tea after finishing- couldn't beat it. Well done to the organisers. and the supporters ( especially the woman who shouted "do it for the girls" from her front garden - nearly fell off the bike laughing..)

I did the super 8 and I found it very well organised, with plenty of refreshments at each stage. It was also well marshalled, given the distance and the number of different stages. However, the sign posts could have been a bit clearer for the few turns that weren't marshalled as they were easy to miss!

I also suffered cramp at the kayak stage and it was pure torture. Thank God the wind was on my back most of the way home! Would it be possible to get the kayak section out of the way a bit earlier for next year?

Found the course very tough due to lack of training and the wind, but it was brilliant preparation for Gael Force. If I do Jog in the Bog next year, ill put in the training for this race as well and hopefully finish a bit higher up the rankings! I reckon I finished near last in this one!! I still enjoyed it and I felt a good surge of achievement for having finished it....

    Well done to all involved
