Hey guys, my lil lad has just bought a ds recently and he is loving it. But now he wants to connect it to the internet so he can trade pokemon with his friends or something. Now i thought that this would be an easy task as i have hooked up all my consoles before without a problem like xbox 360 ps3 etc and all went grand.

However this little console is getting the better of me. We have eircom internet with a netopia router and i just cant seem to make it happen.

Im hoping since the console is old enough now there is a easy solution to the problem. Any help is greatly appreicated thank you.

Your router is probably set to WPA-PSK, which I don't think the little DS can handle.
You'll possibly have to change your security back to WEP

When you go to set up, does it pick up your router? Does it have a Red lock (key required), Grey lock (security not supported) or a blue open lock (no security)? Stupid question, but are you sure it's your router and not a neighbours?

To troubleshoot the connection, first turn off your security settings (as a temporary measure ONLY) and make sure the DS picks up the access point and connects. Next, Take a look at your security settings. The WEP key should be . Finally, a bit obvious but make sure you've typed the WEP key in correctly - connect to the router on your PC and copy&paste the WEP key into Word or WordPad, then increase the font size, change the font, break it up into 4 letter chunks - make sure there are no characters getting confused (eg Y and V, 8 and B, 5 and S, i and 1 and L) and no mistakes are being made.

Make sure you're using the key (not a passphrase) and that it's key #1 on the list. If you're using a 26 digit key, you could try switching to a 10 digit key (64-bit encryption). Note, if you change any settings you're going to have to update all devices that connect to the router.

If all else fails, you could always turn off WEP and turn on MAC address exclusion so only specific devices (namely your PCs, laptops and games consoles) can connect to your router. Just as secure as WEP - more-so if you haven't changed your default username and password on an Eircom router.

When i go to set up it picks up your router and comes up with a red lock (key required) Im sure its my router as i have changed the ssid name of it.

Then when i connect and put in the wep key it comes up with a error code - 52000, unable to obtain ip adress then i manually enter the ip adress and still nothing. And that message still comes up when i have my firewall off ( its normally on low)

I was using a 26 digit key, but i switched it to a 10 digit key (64-bit encryption) but still no luck.!

Was hoping i didnt have to use the Mac adress as i have a lot of things running of the one router.

This may be a little patronisingly presented but it could help!

yopu may need to go into settings and select auto detect ip and other settings in the ds settings, often tghe problem is it is unable to pass throught the ip settings of the router
