Turned on the tap to try for water - loads of it, but it is gray, and it fizzes like I just dropped a headache tablet into it.

Also, there are small black bits floating in there.

    So not drinking that.

We had a similar problem with our water a few months ago. If you leave it in the glass, does it eventually go clear? Went away after a day or so, never did really fnd out what was up with it.

Oh, its been gray before - that's only contamination from a gas pipe, according to the council.
It's never fizzed before, or had little black things floating in it.

Are you sure you're not just pouring out a bottle of coke?

Nope, although it does resemble a nice Club Lemon.

But since it is meant to be processed water, I am suspicious.

someone's just probably dumped a body in your water tank replacing the water with acid. seen it happen before. the black bits will decrease as the body decomposes. just leave it for a few weeks

Maybe they're switched you over to rich peoples water supply which everyone knows is lightly flavoured and sparkling.

Your house is possessed and that is liquified brains coming out your tap.

I would call your local exorcist and have a full cleansing performed.

This is actually fairly standard and you can get government assistance by filing form P666.

Weren't they using Guinness tankers to supply people with water ?
Does your glass of water have a head on it ?

Its due to the lack of oxygen in the water I think.

The fizzing is just dissolved air that was trapped in the pipes, often happens when the water has been turned off and the pipes drained. The black specs I'd be more concerned about. Again these are a result of the pipes being drained and sediments breaking lose from inside the pipe. They don't break off when the pipe is pressurised, but when pressure falls they do.
