Paypay Add to Cart Question

As there seems to be plenty of etailers posting here I thought this might be the best place to go.
I'm currently upgrading my paypal buttons from buy now to add to cart. Buy now is a disaster because if someone wants to buy more then one unit from you they got to process separate transactions each time.
The problem I seem to be encountering with the Add to Cart button is that even if someone wants ten products they would only get charged the shipping price of one unit.
Can anyone shed some light on this for me.
I trust the good people of boards will be back to me before paypal:)

You might want to consider a shopping cart or ecommerce software for your website.

http://www.mals-e.com might be an option, it's similar to Paypal quick button and easily customised.

    Hi Tom,

If you are having decent volumes coming through your webshop you may want to look at moving away from the all in one service like paypal to a merchant bank and payment gateway set up with someone like Realex. Often Paypal is a great option for businesses starting out but once the business begins to mature it may make sense to look into these other options which can both improve the customer experience on the site and also make things both more efficient and hopefully less expensive for you.

Please send me a PM if you'd like to have a chat about it.

    Hi Tom,

Don't know if this is any use to you, but if you go into your paypal account, under profile and choose shipping calculations, you can set the shipping price based on a price range OR % of total cost.

As far as I'm aware PayPal doesn't allow you to set a price per item. If you really need this you'd need to either use a third party shopping cart system or write your own!

    Thanks TomEd,

I will probably take up that option eventually. Its impossible to co-ordinate the shipping rates on Paypal with the actual An Post rates it appears.
In the mean-time I have decided to turn the situation around and use it as a promotion tool.
Basically if someone decides to buy 1, 2, 10 or 100 units (here's praying:D) of any of my products they will be only charged as if they have bought one unit.
I guess a big problem people have with etailers is the extra shipping costs so hopefully something good will come of this idea.
Im having a good morning at least:)
