    (061) Jaws (1975)

Is a classic, holds up today as still being a terrifying film. (Maybe not to those that have seen it 20 times already)

    (064) Shaun of the Dead (2004)

Deserves to stay for being the finest horror comedy of the decade, if not ever. Funny and scary in equal portions.

    (065) The Amityville Horror (1979)

While not a favourite of mine, it helped set the template for a huge amount of films after.

    (067) The Fog (1980)

    A John Carpenter classic.

    (069) Candyman (1992)

The last be hurrah of the 80's style slasher films, before Scream came along and rewrote the rules.

    (061) Jaws (1975)
Bit of a no brainer. Stay

    (062) Phantasm (1979)
Bonkers but in a good way. Stay

    (063) The Hunger (1983)
Interesting take on the vampire movie with some nice moments. And an awful lot of sh*t moments. Imagine if '83 era Ridley had made it instead? Go

    (064) Shaun of the Dead (2004)
Not only a comedy pastiche but a zombie classic in its own right. Stay

    (065) The Amityville Horror (1979)
Doesn't really live up to its name. Go

    (066) Scanners (1981)
Apart from the exploding heads what does it offer? Well I like exploding heads. Stay.

    (067) The Fog (1980)
Had great memories of this film. Watched it recently and the start of it is dripping with the sort of atmosphere only Carpenter can achieve. And then it does nothing with it. Very disappointing. Go.

    (068) Martin (1977)
Like The Hunger an interesting take on the vampire movie. Its influence can be seen in more modern efforts like Thirst and Let the Right One In. Stay

    (069) Candyman (1992)
Underrated when released its now regarded as the classic and original horror it is. Stay.

    (070) Murder Set Pieces (2004)
Made by someone who has watched tones of horror movies but the subtleties of each have gone over his head as he tries to recreate them but with more gore. Amateurish stuff. Go.

    (061) Jaws (1975)
Voted for it to stay - but like Aliens, I just wouldn't put Jaws under the Horror section

    (062) Phantasm (1979)
    Good memories of this... stay

    (063) The Hunger (1983)
    Haven't seen

    (064) Shaun of the Dead (2004)
    Excellent stuff... stay!

    (065) The Amityville Horror (1979)
Good in its day - stay

    (066) Scanners (1981)
I actually voted for this to go (I hope I didn't vote it in!) as I watched this again recently and jesus its a terrible film with one if the worst actors ever!, other than the head expolding scene it really offers very little.

    (067) The Fog (1980)
Enjoyed it at the time. Stay

    (068) Martin (1977)
    Haven't seen

    (069) Candyman (1992)
    Loved this. stay

    (070) Murder Set Pieces (2004)
    haven't seen.

    (061) Jaws (1975)
Horror it is and stay it shall

    (062) Phantasm (1979)
Haven't seen in ages, didn't vote

    (063) The Hunger (1983)
Hated it on first viewing, subsequently grew on me. Stay

    (064) Shaun of the Dead (2004)
Comedy elements yeah but still has an affection for the horror genre that's all too absent in most horror films being made now. Stay

    (065) The Amityville Horror (1979)
Good old haunted house film though it annoyed me that it adapted some of the more chilling moments from the book horribly to the visual medium (the eyes at the window a notable example). Stay, just!

    (066) Scanners (1981)
    See Phantasm

    (067) The Fog (1980)
    Classic. Stays

    (068) Martin (1977)
    Haven't seen

    (069) Candyman (1992)
Scared the hell out of me as a kid, still good now! Stay

    (070) Murder Set Pieces (2004)
    Haven't seen

Just watching Murder Set Pieces now, loving the arbitrary way that the Candyman shows up around 40 mins in as the porno shop clerk! Strange juxtaposition...

I voted everything to stay, aside from MSP which i hadn't seen at the time, and Sean of the Dead, which is a comedy. To be honest, MSP isn't a horror in my eyes, it's more of a rambling, tits and ass and entrails-fest, but there's zero tension and zero horror, so I would have voted it out on the evidence I've seen so far. Entertaining, but horrific nonsense.

edit - i accidentally did vote MSP to go. don't remember that, must have been a mistake. but it stands :)

edit the second - it does pull it back at the end. Still, not a top film

It is brutal.Avoid the edited version put out by Lionsgate, its cut by 7 or 8 minutes.Best version is the one put out by Frightflix but it can be pricey.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 917 ✭✭✭carbonkid

Frightflix release is the directors cut or something?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,925 ✭✭✭Otis Driftwood

This is the one I mean.

Its the version I have and AFAIK its apparently the best version.
