My girlfriend and I are going to a wedding in Albufiera in Portugal in June.

If anyone has ever been there, could you recommend a nice hotel or apartments? We're not looking to break the bank, nor do we want to do it on the cheap; a nice mid-range place, near the beach, near a few bars/restaurants would be ideal for us. We're in our early 20s, so we don't mind being near "the strip".

    Many thanks :)

Its a really nice area and not a very big place...so taxis and walking will get you by! try booking.com for a list of popular or cheap hotels....
Also if you hire a car...there is loads of really nice beaches around there and all within a very short drive from each other...like praia de luz for example...lovely little village....also a shopping centre in guia and a chance to swim with dolphins around there too! motorway (A22) is brilliant...and driving isnt like Italy...we felt safe!

we stayed here, its next door to a big supermarket and about half way between the strip and the old town, would recommend an apartment over a studio http://www.hotelbrisasol.com/

Thanks for the suggestions, I've checked them out and they look very nice.

Any other suggestions would be welcome - I'm going to try to ckeck out as many places as possible before I book.

We stayed at Forte do Vale a few months ago:

The apartments are REALLY nice - very modern interiors and way nicer than any apts I've holidayed in before. There's three pools there and bar etc. The location is *slightly* out of the hubbub - about 10 mins stroll to the strip and a good bit more to the New Town (€4 taxi). New Town actually has far better bars than the strip BTW. 10 mins to nearest beach - a small, quiet one. Small supermarket next door and massive one 10 mins away.

Best of all, as it's a new and fairly unknown place, we got a frankly ridiculously low price from alpharooms.com - under €200 for a week in Oct.

Could not recommend it highly enough quiet, romantic, great staff, great breakfast, 50 seconds from a fab beach and 10 mins in taxi to town centre. Lovely seafood resturants nearby.
