Anybody hear something about Social Welfare introducing an online system where you can sign on/off etc?

To be honest, I don't see that ever happening. It could potentially lead to a lot more Social Welfare fraud than there is at present.

Some offices have it in place for signing off.

    Go to www.welfare.ie
Then click on Contact Us up on the top left
Under Contact us by phone or visit us click the link "Social Welfare Local & Branch Offices"
Scroll to your relevant office and click on the link
On the right hand side under "I want to" there may be a link "Close my Jobseeker's claim".
If its there click and fill in the form and an email will be sent to the office advising you wish to close your claim.

A bit strange the way they have that setup, if you knew someones PPSN, name and address - you could cause all sorts of hassle for them.
