Now live Co Laois & haven't flown for some time but have A certs for f/w & heli. About intermed standard with some re-familiarisation. Sent a few emails to fairly nearby club contacts from maci site, not much luck, 2 no replies & one "closed to new members" for some obscure reason! Dublin locale seems well catered for, but appears not so around here! Any suggestions for friendly active club or group? Tried asking a farmer if I could fly a foamy on one of his fields - think I would have got a better reaction if I'd asked him to saw off one of his legs! Thanks any suggestions

I would advise you to join any NATIONWIDE group - just to get a MACI insurance.
Then you will have better chance to be accepted by 'locals' as a guest pilot.
You may also switch to rc gliders and fly almost anywhere :)
