    Hi

I recently updated the drivers (I used a program which I've now uninstalled) on my laptop and anytime I plug in my external hd I get the message which can be seen in the attached word doc. Any suggestions for how I can get the usb ports back to being 2.0?

    Many thanks

    Martin

Looks to me like there's a proprietary USB 2.0 driver installed. The first device in the USB category, the PCI Class USB 2.0 driver, right-click that and choose Update Driver. If it asks you to search the Internet, choose "No, not this time" and click Next.

Now choose "Install from a specific location (Advanced) and click Next.

Choose, "Don't search, I will choose the driver to install" and Next again.

In the list of devices you should see "SiS PCI to USB Enhanced Host Controller" - if so, highlight it and click Next. This should solve the problem. If you don't see that in the list, there should be a "Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller" driver, this will work too.
